Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 8, 2004 Orange amber pour with a light head and lacing. Malt and fruity hops in the aromas. Citrus mainly; lemons and oranges. Lightly spiced. Honey comes out big time. Followed again by lemon. Nice balance of the hops and malt. Tingly palate, medium bodied and a spicy finish with hints of alcohol. SETANTA (581), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 6, 2004 Bright yellow gold, white foamy medium sized head. Lightly earthy and musty aroma, some honeyish fruity notes. Lightly sweet up front on the tongue, but the flavor is predominantly bitter and earthy. Finish is almost astringent. Drinkable, but not particularly enjoyable.
Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Mar 24, 2004 Cloudy yellow/orange appearance with a good head. Aroma is citrus fruit. Flavor is fairly sour and musky with a sour fruit flavor. Overall this was a decent belgian blonde. Sassy (217), Mullet Capital of the World, Georgia, USA Mar 24, 2004 This was decent, though I'm not crazy about the style. Cloudy orange color with decent head. Yeasty, with a sour fruit flavor. chriso (4685), London, Greater London, England Mar 9, 2004 Beer number 500 and , quite by chance, I was privileged to bag it in the congenial company of Silk Tork, Spiesy, Rauchbier, John White (of whitebeertravels.com) and various of their partners and friends. As to the beer, it was gold/orange in colour. The aromas and flavours included apples, oranges and peaches. Apples dominated. Unfortunately, although there was a little compensating acidity, it was just a little too sweet for my palate. Draught, Wenlock Arms, London N1.
leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Mar 8, 2004 Bronze with a lovely lively head. Aromas are caramel and pears with spices and a yeast mustiness. Flavours are fruity malts, pear drop sweets with a citrus tang. Has the typical foam in the mouth mouthfeel of a trappist beer. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Feb 28, 2004 Updated: Sep 14, 2006(Bottled) Slightly hazy, deep golden color with a small but lasting head. Grainy-alcoholic, fruity, honey-apple-sweet, yeasty aroma (a bit like European Strong lagers, especially without yeast). The flavor is drier than expected - quite neutral, actually - malty, slightly cardboardy and moderately fruity. Some alcohol can be felt, and the finish is acidic - surprisingly this only shows with yeast poured in. Has some wheatiness and witbier spices. Medium-bodied, quite neutral palate with balanced carbonation. Not a very memorable brew, and certainly not at the quality level you’d expect from a trappist. diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Feb 15, 2004 Quite clear, golden body. White, creamy head, quite lacing and mostly lasting. Sweet, yeasty aroma, also some maltiness. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter initial flavour. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet finish, which is long-lasting, but not intense.
