henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Apr 13, 2008 Deep chestnut body, huge lasting beige head; Pleasant but quite innocent nose with a slight acid touch; Big bubbled carbonation in a simple Trappist body with a bock touch, a bit strange; Malty a little cane sugary sweet finish, malty and fruity aromas. Drinkable but not really interesting. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Apr 10, 2008 Sampled during Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening beer tasting as Konings Hoeven Bock Bier. From bottle pours a clear dark copper amber brew with a moderate medium tan head that has some nice retention and sticky/spotty lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some dry nobel hop character and a touch of dark pitted fruits. Taste is medium to full bodied, some moderate alcohol on the back-tongue with a semi-dry caramel malt flavor. Finish is semi-dry with some mild hop bitterness that quickly disappears. MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Apr 10, 2008 [bottle] Poured a deep, cloudy brown with moderate white head. Aroma was full of caramel with some other malty flavors and tiny bit of hops. Not bad. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Apr 10, 2008 Nice pour of deep ruddy brown with a light tan head. Sweet and malty nose which carried into the flavor. Not very complex, but not bad. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 4, 2008 Deep amber, reddish colour with a beige head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with notes of bread and fruit. Malty, light roasted flavor with a fruity sweet note. Light dry and vague roasted finish with hints of alcohol. ulfarlinnet (7), 220 Hafnarfjörður, Iceland does not count Apr 1, 2008 Poured it from a large bottle with a cork. The beer was extremely carbonated and the foam built up fast. The aroma was not strong, mostly malt. The taste was sweet, moderate bitterness but the carbonation made it feel unpleasant to drink. Didn’t like it that much. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Mar 24, 2008 Corked and caged bottle. Large frothy, semi-fizzy tan head, fair amount of lacing, transparent, very little carbonation, and a reddish hue. The nose was malty, caramel, hint of toffee, and some fruityness. The flavor was malty, caramel, some fruityness, a light hoppiness and a dry finish.Tingly mouthfeel and medium in body. Quaffable, easy to drink but nothing outstanding was noted.Worth a try IMO. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Mar 22, 2008 Bottle: Deep coppery hue with ruby highlight topped by a fading frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and toffee, walnut, fig, starfruit, biscuity malt and is a tad corky. The taste is simple carmelized and pale malt sweetness over a light layer of dark fruits. Almost no bitterness nor alcohol noted. Woody and nutty dry finish. The mouth feel is mild and soft. An okay brew but nothing to seek out.
