This unique seasonal product is the world’s only Trappist bock ale. Brewed exclusively with natural ingredients, this ale post-ferments slightly in its bottle. It has a deep red colour, an intensely rich taste, and a malty aroma. Aromatic hop varieties and types of burnt malt render this ale its delicate bitterness that blends surprisingly well with its slightly sweet undertone.

La Trappe Bock has 7% ABV.

Dark brown with reddish-orange tints. Huge, fine head. Sweet caramel aroma. Rich and malty with Belgian yeast. Malty and rich, with slightly burnt caramel and some alcohol heat. Belgian yeast quality is noticeable. More like a Belgian strong than a traditional bock

Well rounded malts and a decent Belgian quality. Moderate brown color, somewhat standard aesthetic experience. Not my favorite style. Bottle label was Koningshoeven Bock.

(Bottled, BBE 06/2011, this one has the Trappist logo in it) Hazy dark ruby with a medium, tanned and firm, lasting head. Aroma of roasted, dark-bready and caramely malt. Flavor is roasted-malty, lightly sour, dryish and rye-pudding-caramely with some ashy hints. Yes, it’s just about as balanced and good as a Dutch-style bock can be - but I just don’t get the purpose of this style...

Bottle labled Koningshoven Bock. Clear brown with red highlights and a fluffy tan head. Strong Belgian yeast citrus and dark fruit aroma and taste with a tangy bright palate.

Pours a dark amber color with a large foamy khaki head. Nose of dark fruits specifically plum and raisan. Brown sugar, clove, caramel and some spice. Initial taste of roasted malt deep in the back, sweet caramel, toffee, and plum. Mid palate continues with lightly roast creamy and hop balance. Finish is dry and short. Mouthfeel is active carbonation and light bodied. Head retention and spot lacing is excellent.

Bottle. Labeled as Koningshoeven Bock. Reddish brown body with a beige head. The aroma was full of plum, roast, tobacco, cookie dough, brown sugar and caramel. The flavor was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. The beer finished lightly to moderately bitter and lightly sweet. It started moderately roasty but when it hit the back of the tongue, it left a sharp licorice/coffee bitterness, though nothing overpowering. Medium body with moderate to lively carbonation. Smooth texture. Much more robust and flavorful and many dunkler bocks. Very enjoyable.

Bottled, 330ml. Deep ruby with cream head. Rich malty beer but with a heavy sweetness that became cloying. Fruity, plummy, raisin with a slight butterscotch note in the background. Never really finished, just tapered off in a fruitcake type of way.

Bottle from Bottle Barn. Only $8.79 for 750. Brilliant ruby color with a massive finely bubbled tan head. Aroma of roasted caramel with some mild citrus and spice for backing. Medium body with creamy carbonation. It starts fresh mild caramel and goes to a much stronger roast, finished with some coffee? and hot spice bits. Reasonably dry, nigh astringent, ending. It’s a really tasty beer.

V dark ruby, brown with a creamy thick head about one finger tall. a nice roasty aroma with barley brown sugar, caramel elements. Tad muted though. Taste was spicier with a slight pepper and hops and malted oats.

Pours a three-finger cream/beige head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Deep red/mahogany color. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Malty, fruity nose. Flavor is malty, rich fruit, some caramel. No bitter aftertaste. Decent bock. $11.00 for a 750ml bottle from a Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, ME. La Trappe is not on the label anymore.
