Commercial Description:
La Trappe Bockbier is a unique seasonal product, available from autumn onwards. the only Trappist bock and what is more, one that continues to ferment in the bottle. A beautiful deep red colour with a light, bitter aftertaste.

La Trappe Bock has 7% ABV.

Bottle. Creamy off-white excellent fully lasting head. Amber colour. Perfect! Moderate malty and heavy hoppy aroma, Orange notes. Moderate bitter flavopr. Nice complex fruity notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate. Fantastic dunkel bock.

Aroma is complex, with some caramel and a mix of roasted malt notes. The head is beige, foamy and firmly persistent. Dark brown, no bright. On flavor, the roasted malts are dominant. Medium body, some complexity. Good carbonatation, the bitterness is light to medium, well balanced with the beer. Finish is smooth. The beer is fairly well balanced, with some roasted malt aftertaste. Great beer, at the same level (but not the best) as the others from La Trappe.

Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This bock pours a deep brown color from a 33cl bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and toffee and fairly sweet. A medium bodied bock. The malts are caramel, toffee, bready and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. This beer kind of surprised me, it was much better than I thought it was going to be. It’s not very complex, but its very drinkable. The malts are sweet without being cloying and it finishes with a slightly dry and bitter finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

2008-04-19. Ruby tinged brown body, good sized beige head fades a bit. The signature glass is not really aiding the aroma in that it disperses it before allowing for a longer pondering of it. Teasing out the details reveals sweet malt with light toasted malt notes. (7+) Sweet malty flavour, lightly alcoholic, pleasantly warming. Malt dominant with light fruity undertones. (7+) Smooth average plus palate. Fairly pleasant, very malt forward. Nice. On tap at The Abbot On The Hill, Toronto

A clear dark red colored beer, with a very large beige foamy head. An aroma of roasted malt, caramel and toffee. There are tastes of dark fruits, some chocolate and hop bitterness. In the back it’s a little spicey. A very good bock beer.

Draught at The Abbot on the Hill. Rating #2200! Dark ruby-brown with a medium sized tan head that quickly recedes to a thin film. Fantastic aroma of malt, toffee, dark fruit, and a hint of spice. Full bodied without being sticky or cloying, very nice. Lovely, complex flavour - malt, caramel, brown sugar, dark dried fruit, toasted nuts - and a warm, lingering finish. Thanks to the Abbot and Premier Brands for bringing in this rare treat!

On tap @ The Abbott on the Hill, Toronto. Heavenly malt aroma, woody, pit fruit, caramel and treacle, auburn, tiniest toffee head. Flavour is a rich candied malt, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, almonds, raisins and pit fruit. Full bodied, very well balanced, complex, sweet, bitter, silky texture, way too easy to drink. Majestic! Way to go Abbott on the Hill!

Tapped at Abbot On the Hill. A great haul for them. Pours an active dark brown with white crown. Bold malt, and yeast aroma, including chocolate malt. Carbonation, natural, does not quit. In your face taste,a bit rochfort/cocacola caramel like, some nutmeg. Overall not too complex, good drinkability.
