4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sunday 20 Oct 2012 sees me sat outside in bright sunlight: Valkenburg, Holland. I walk passed a board advertising La Trappe Bockbier on tap, I put myself into reverse and have two lovely glasses of this and watch the world go by.
Deep brown/ruby red in body colour: the sunlight dancing on the ruby tints. Large cream coloured head when brought to my table: soon turns into a wispy covering and collar (what a pity).
Malts and yeast esters vie for your smell senses with the malts easily winning. Add a hand full of crushed dark, red berries and a spoon full of all spice and you’ve got the aroma.
The malts rule the taste as well, malty molasses giving the beer a rich, smooth feel and flavour. Most likely the best Bock I had while on the trip. Another bar was having a Bock Fest and had around 8 on tap, so I managed to try a few, as you do!

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0,33 bottle purchased at the Beerville store in Belgrade-Serbia. Ciao Vlada! Pours amber-brown, huge ivory foam which stays there tick and consistent. Nice appearance, good shape. Nose: typical sugary La Trappe aroma, leather, cherries. Predominant alcohol. Mouth. dusty, a hint of burnt meat, very herbal hops and kind of an easy-to-forget Bock which has longed to be different. Not for me.

A nice bock, but nothing very special, which is something one would expect from a La Trappe (at least I would).
