4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sunday 20 Oct 2012 sees me sat outside in bright sunlight: Valkenburg, Holland. I walk passed a board advertising La Trappe Bockbier on tap, I put myself into reverse and have two lovely glasses of this and watch the world go by.
Deep brown/ruby red in body colour: the sunlight dancing on the ruby tints. Large cream coloured head when brought to my table: soon turns into a wispy covering and collar (what a pity).
Malts and yeast esters vie for your smell senses with the malts easily winning. Add a hand full of crushed dark, red berries and a spoon full of all spice and you’ve got the aroma.
The malts rule the taste as well, malty molasses giving the beer a rich, smooth feel and flavour. Most likely the best Bock I had while on the trip. Another bar was having a Bock Fest and had around 8 on tap, so I managed to try a few, as you do!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
An opaque dark red beer with a brown head. The aroma is a weird sweet honey one. The flavor is sour malty with hints of chocolate.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle at home. Pours dark reddish brown with a small light beige head. Nice aroma of roasted malts and nuts, a bit of sweet oak alcohol as well. Body is less thick than what the nose makes one expect, nice warm malt structure with caramalised tadte, medium dry finish, tad of bitterness in the end. OK.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a rich coppery amber colour with foamy tan head which quickly goes. Aroma is burnt brown sugar and caramel malt, slight grassy hops, dark fruits and slightly doughy yeast. Taste is medium sweet and light-medium bitter, slightly sour too and nicely balanced. Sticky texture which is nicely off set by medium carbonation. Nice beer!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
-pours a clear ruby-brown with a huge beige head
-medium carbonation visible
grassy,spicy,surprisingly citrussy,plums and raisins
-Follows the nose plus molasses and licorishwith a roasty finish
medium-high carbonation,medium-full body
This is not a Bock in the traditional sense, heck i dont think its even a lager.
Think of this more as a Trappist ale version of a Bock
I prefer this over the regfular La trappe dubbel

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: dark amber with ruby highlights and a creamy, light beige head; decent lacing. Aroma: caramel, raisins, light yeasty spice, molasses, burnt sugar. Taste: dark caramel and toffee malts dominate, with a bit of dark fruit and a bit of candied orange peel; there’s some yeasty notes and toasted dark brown bread, maybe a hint of smoke. Finish: slightly sticky, but with enough carbonation to liven the palate just the right amount to complement the sweet and toasty finish. Notes: Quite enjoyable. Bottle from the Rare Beer Club, shared with my dad and my brother-in-law on Memorial Day 2015.

Creamy, with marked sourness, metallicity and bitterness. Long finish with aftertones of biscuit. Very nice.
