Gelungen! Test vom 12.5.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,10,11,11,12,11 - 10,90

Bottle. Fruity aroma. Nice reddish copper colour with medium head. Sweet fruity and spicy flavor. Well ballanced beer.

Out of a bottle. Brown, good head. Malty with the chalky taste of Belgian spices - even though there’s none listed in the ingredients. It’s a good summer intro beer to those new to Belgians.

I tried this one on tap yesterday. I’m familiar with the Quadrupel but I never tried the Dubbel (shame on me). So when I got it I was stunned by the deep dark red, brownish colour with a small beige head. Aroma has malts and alcohol. Perhaps bit of dark sweets like chocolate. Taste has syrup, raisins and plums with a bit of the alcohol coming back in the taste. La Trappe is definitely one of my favourite brewery’s and remains being so after this beer.

On tap at Café Belgique, Amsterdam on 8 April 2011. Thought I would try this as I hadn’t reviewed it on draught before. Turns out I hadn’t reviewed it at all. Reddish colour. Diminishing cream head. Fruity but not too sweet. Some plummy / cherry notes. Subtle sour edge in the aftertaste. Quite tasty and satisfying.

Bottle at Ölstopet 2011. Dark brown, hazy liquid with medium off-white head. Smells of Belgian yeast, banana, caramel and fruits overall. Very Belgian. Tastes is quite sweet with medium bitterness. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Nice overall but not stunning.
