duvel tulip glass: very dark ruby. brown, tight, and slightly rocky head. spicy, tart, and fruity flavor; slight caramel and slight raisin. medium body. refreshing. i feel that i sampled this brew at the wrong time. this reminds me of a very fruity brown ale. i prefer the quad. my palate had lasted touched Midas Touch by DH.

Pours a nice red colour with a complex, spicy aroma. Taste is less exciting but still good, with spice, roast and hops nicely balanced.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2004 330ml Bottle. Not bad, easily bettered by other Trappist Abbey Dubbels I have had (Westmalle Dubbel, Chimay Red). A quarter of the bottle shot out of the top on opening, so didn't get to try the complete bottle. However, I drank enough to realise that this is sweet and fruity, with some spiciness. Decent beer, nothing compared to the Trappists though.

Nice red colour with very small head, looks almost as a glass of red wine. Aroma is sweet with lots of fruit. Flavor is very, very sweet, to sweet for my taste.

Has an 11:00 on the 750 ml bottle. Nov 2000? Pours a clear reddish brown with a tan head. Raisin aroma and pleasant. Big raisiny fruity flavor up front, but dries out quick with a wierd aftertaste. A little on the thin side.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Cola colored deep brwon with fizzy off-white head and some lace. The aroma haas notes of caramel and smoked malts, raisin, prune, aromatic hops, brown sugar, and meaty. The taste starts very fruity with banana, prune, and black currents on top of a malt and suger base. The finish displays a nice smoky and bitter nature with provides good balance. Could have more depth however. The feel is lively and crisp, thin-bodied. Overall a quaffable and refereshing trappist beer. Not earth shaking, but worth a try.
