4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 nuplastikk (2445) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 1, 2011
Draft at Hopleaf. Deep amber brown with a patchy, soap bubble head. Sweet deep chocolate aroma. Doesn’t strike me as a classic example of a Dubbel, but still quite awesome. Some pungent underlying fruity tones..raisin, plum, prune. Super malty chocolate tones. Relatively soft carbonation. Certainly has a Dutch feel to it. Excellent.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 20, 2010
On tap at Beer Bistro in Toronto, served in a branded Trappist glass. Pours clear brown with a small tan head. The head fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace behind. The nose has aromas of raisins, candi sugar, dark fruit, flowers and yeast. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with lots of raisin and candi sugar complexity. On the palate, it is medium in body and somewhat syrupy in texture, with soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice malty dubbel with lots of raisin and candi sugar, a hint of flowers and dark fruit. It is well put together and subtle. It is actually a nice sessionable choice. 2010-12-17

5 months old. Brown little clouded beer, beige non adhesive head, dissipates quickly. Aroma: oh the banana! More banana candy rather than the real fruit. Also apple juice. MF: nice carbon, light to medium body, bit watery texture. Taste: fruity, mocha, caramel. Aftertaste: sour fruits, caramel, banana (candy).
Note: so I finally got around to taking some notes for the trappists. I’ve been drinking them for years and usually when I did not felt like sampling something new and taking notes. Tasted them with 2 friends for a trappist review article in the student society magazine.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 RC8 (303) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2010
Delicious round and mellow red ale. Quite a soft beer for the style, almost reminiscent of less ’belgian’ reds. Very light body and feel that dissipates in your mouth like water running through ones’ fingers.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 davidm (1247) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 30, 2010
Bottle 330ml. Exceptional beer. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, and lots of fruit (apricot, cherries). Taste is sweet, with a touch of acidity, long length, and dry finish. Palate is creamy, with a full body. Red, with a frothy white head.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 inbirraveritas (712) - Budapest, HUNGARY - NOV 29, 2010
