On tap at the Brick Store. Pours a dark brown with an ample head that eventually goes away. The smell is of sweet caramel and yeast. The flavor is sweet, but balanced nicely. The palate is slightly fizzy and very smooth. Overall, an excellent easy drinking beer.

Much better than the blond. Creamy, malty, complex. Dark fruits and caramel dominate the palate. Abbey dubbels are among my favorites and this does not disappoint.

Courtesy of SHIG. Pours clear copper with full off white head. The aroma is full of apple and pear fruity goodness along with spikes of spices and yeastiness. The taste is smooth apple and pear sweetness as well as coriander, clove and yeasty spices rounding things out.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Davros (919) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUL 5, 2010
Pours copper ruby with a large tan head that quickly fades to a thin creamy covering.
Nose can only be described as spicy fruitcake: cinnamon, figs, candi sugar, brandy and sultanas are all apparent.
Similarly rich, sweet, malty flavours with Christmas spices adding a little complexity. Alcohol is just noticeable as in the aroma.
Body is surprisingly light for the flavours, the carbonation is unsuitably high.

Aka: Koeningshoven Dubbel Trappist Ale. Tried at Pub Italia on Preston in Ottawa, Ontario. Poured a deep golden-amber colour with a mid-creamy tanned head. Had good foamy lacing and a 2mm top coated the brew and stayed. Carbonation was active with tiny miniscule bubbles. The nose was filled with nuts and hints of dark fruits. Taste was mostly nutty with a slight sourness in the start going to a grain aftertaste. Found some bread in the finish and a bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel was smooth with some mild tartness. Pretty decent lower alcohol trappist brew.

Pours dark, hazy brown with a thin tannish head. Spicy aroma with notes of nuts, earthiness, raisin. A bit acidic and fairly sweet. Fairly thick bodied and filling. Nice beer.
