First brewed in 1987.
Ingredients: Water, Barley malt, Hops, Yeast.
"Discover this genuine dark Trappist beer with a gentle flavour, creamy head and pronounced bouquet.
La Trappe Dubbel has a deep brown colour and attractive beige froth. The use of caramel malt gives it a gentle aromatic caramelised quality. It has a rich malty flavour with a touch of sweetness. Post-fermenting La Trappe Dubbel is a smooth drink, and yet has some real body and intense flavour to it.

Keg. Pours a very dark brown, with a persisting off-white head. Aromas of sugar, lots of dark fruit, plums and raisin. Taste- dark maltiness, bit of rich spice, raisin, plum and dark cherry hints, some sugary sweetness, malted bread, medium bodied. Very nice.

330ml bottle, poured into a La Trappe Trappist glass. Appearance is clear dark ruby-red with a medium sized tan head, that reduced quickly without leaving any lacing. Aroma of caramel, dried apricots and raisins. Flavours of caramel, toffee, dried apricots, raisins, spices and a hint of banana. Taste is light sweet and light medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied, soft texture and average carbonation. Overall a good Abbey Dubbel from De Koningshoeven, but compared to other Trappist breweries it’s not as tasty as Westmalle Dubbel or Chimay Red.

From a bottle at home. Slightly sweet with another kind of sweet ending. Looks nice.

Dark malts, some burnt caramel, grain, and subtle hops in the aroma. The taste is on the dull side, less sweet or even bitter than I would have imagined, with a mineraly finish with some acidity.

33cl bottle @home. Pours brown with a beige head that’s gone very fast. Nice aroma, bit of coffee smell and taste. Some bitterness, not that much aftertaste. Not really what I expected.

Clear brown pour with a offwhite big head, that quickly fizzles away. Aroma is caramel, herbs, basement aromas, earthy and bubblegum, Taste is medium sweet and pretty light in bitterness. Silky smooth mouthfeel, and good carbonation.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A brown mahogany beer with a large light beige head which disappears quite fast. Bubble carpet resisting though. Acid fruity aroma, caramel, liquorice. Medium sweetness. Light bitterness. Medium body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet finish. Overall, a good dubbel. Nice bouquet and flavor.

Bottle. Brown with basically no head. Aroma has yeast, sour bread and orange. Taste has yeast, nut, little banana, butter, cocoa and bread. Bit too rounded and simple, but very smooth on the palate.
