2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Allen (2394) - SWITZERLAND - MAY 17, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 20, 2008 Sampled at the fête de la bière in Martigny, Switzerland. It pours a dark ruby beer with a mocha head. The nose shows a burnt component. Hints of banana, white pepper and yeast. Rather strong. Some glue and manure appearing - a dissapointing aroma. The taste is of alcohol, burnt plastic and malt. No subtle components. Hints of banana and white pepper. Sweet and full bodied. Malty finish with hints of mint and burnt plastic. A very dissapointing dubbel.

0.5l crock. Pours with an average head, deep brown with a little red. Not really full bodied or thin, somewhere inbetween.
Nice fruity dark ale, with a nice sweetness and pleasant after taste. Not bad at all.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 cyrenaica (745) - Milton, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2008
330ml draught
6.5% ABV
I tried this beer on May 9, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto, Ontario on tap. The beer was a beautiful dark brown with some plum coloured hints and a thin, rocky, tan coloured head. The aroma was sweet malt, with some yeasty tones, as well as chocolate and cherry hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, mildly carbonated, and slightly creamy. The flavour was caramel malt, some other fruit flavours like cherries and plum, and a little hoppish bitterness to round it out. I loved this beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 WesKBob (541) - Bethany, Oklahoma, USA - MAY 3, 2008
Pours an almost opaque dark red with a moderately thick head even after a gentle pour. However, the head quickly dissipates and has very little lacing. The aroma is sweet, with notes of caramel malt and dried fruit. Taste is similar with sweet caramel notes and flavors of dried cherries. Unfortunately, the alcohol doesn’t seem to blend well with the other flavors and it leaves a decidedly alcoholic aftertaste. A good beer overall, but not a great dubbel.
