3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Blom (778) - Odense, DENMARK - APR 12, 2008
Dark ruby with a dense head. Caramel, toffee, chocolate, and biscuits dominates this very nice dubbel. A very lively mouthfeel with a lot of tingling carbonation makes this one of the better dubbels I’ve tasted.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Eructoblaster (2043) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 11, 2008
Bottle - 330ml. Pours a dark amber/brown hazy body with a thin off-white foamy head. its well balanced malty/hoppy aroma carries sweet and fruity hints. Taste hides the alcohol pretty well. Ends with a long bittersweet finish. Good Dubbel.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 restless7 (104) - Lenexa, Kansas, USA - APR 9, 2008
BOTTLE: Koningshoeven Dubbel, nice tan head. Floral aroma, slight lacing. Flavor is nice, not overly sweet, a hint of vanilla at the back of the tongue. Palate is not overwhelming, somewhat bubbly but short finish. Nice beer but clearly not one of the best trappists.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Imperial-John (192) - Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA - APR 9, 2008
Bottle at Rhino, westend Toronto. Dark Brown with cream head. Fruity yeast aroma. Bubbly caramel taste, not as sweet or refined as Quad.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 reakt (946) - Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 6, 2008
Rate from May ’07 Bottle from Tesco. Dark brown, thin tan head. Candy sweet aroma of brown sugar and malts. Taste to match, with a touch of spice. Dusty finish of spice and alcohol. Odd waxy mouthfeel. Good, but there’s something amiss.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 webjedi (250) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - MAR 31, 2008
Dark, dark copper... less pear and apple, than the blonde, less oily as well. Much milder though, as both the Blonde and the Dubbel seem to lack "fizz" or bite as say an Orval or Chimay which I’ve been led to believe was a cousin. ANyhow, this beer was generally pleasant to drink, but I’m still struggling on what food I could pair this with properly. It has the taste of the apple between the skin and the tougher part, namely where it ripens first. Huge head when poured delicately, although dissipates quickly. (Bottle Pour 3/29/2008)
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Otje (675) - Veendam, NETHERLANDS - MAR 31, 2008
Dark brown beer, small head. Fruity, yeasty and a bit chocolaty aroma. Good sourrish and sweetish taste with raisins, figs and some chocolate. Bitterish finish, nicely balanced.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 espenra (609) - Kurland, NORWAY - MAR 22, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 33cl bottle from Systembolaget. Pours a dark brown, almost black color with a suprisingly small light-brown head that vanished fast in the glass. The aroma is sweet with notes of bananas, raisins, and hints of sugar. The flavor is fruity with notes of bananas, apples, raisins, yeast and malts. The aftertaste is quite short.
