Not a bad dubbel at all. Pours a light mahogany color with a medium sized tope head. Nose is of dark fruit and malt and sugar. Taste is green apples dark fruit and sugar. Very crisp and clean. I like it.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beershine (4561) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAR 8, 2008
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 Clear(ish) red pour with a thick round of head. Decent retention, nice hue, but no lace. Aroma of mashed-up cherries and baby powder. Flavors are largely cherry but with a solid malt backbone and an off-dry, tart, slightly hoppy, overipe fruit finish. It’s at least semi-filtered so none of the thickness or depth that might make it marvelous but is still a decent drinkable Dutch dubbel. vintage version from around 1999 or 2000, aged about 8 years has a nice sweetness...

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 GJF (973) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA - FEB 29, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2008 This pours really well, a dark amber with a ridiculously thick orangish so I was really looking forward to good things. It just doesn’t live up to it. It’s a bit tart and unbalanced and the palate is oddly watery considering the thickness of its head. Certainly drinkable but I won’t go out of my way for it.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bungalo22 (326) - Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA - FEB 25, 2008
Bottled purchased in Fairfield, CT under the name Konings and directed here. Pours a very dark amber color with a small swirling head. Appears to even be some very some particles in there. Smells of alcohol in a very strong way in the beginning. I think I should have stored it for a bit to age it - I feel it would have been better. I also let it warm a bit and it brought out a much better aroma and taste on the palate. Certainly getting a little fruit on first taste with banana seeming to come out. Really? the beer got better and better as I went on drinking it. Finished very nice though a bit bitter and sour.

Sampled as a bottle of ’Koningshoeven’ Dubbel. This dubbel once poured was hard to put down. Flavors of caramel, fruit, oak, and strong alcohol undertone. Held up well on the trip from Holland, and I even gave it a few months cellaring for good measure.
