Boutip (2330), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 21, 2005 Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a medium off-white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of sugary malt with some Belgian type yeast. Taste is really good with a nice mix between sweet caramel malt and fresh cookie with a touch of Belgian yeast. The mouthfeel is a creamy but also watery and I believe this is the main default of this beer. Body is way too thin for the style. johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 21, 2005 Nose is great - gentle and sweet with strong banana overtones. Very low carb with a weak head. Taste is a nice, unchallenging Dubbel with the typical Trappist/Abbey complexity. Finish lets it down a little with a flat and soapy quality a bit, but generally a fine abbey ale. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Nov 20, 2005 33 cl bottle. Yeast in the bottle. Reddish brown colour with a nice rocky head. Lovely aroma of sugar, dried fruit and some caramel. Nice flavour of complexity with toffee and raisins, but not so good as the aroma. Ends up with a warm feeling from the alcohol. Finn (1422), Tromsř, Norway Nov 18, 2005 Updated: Feb 20, 2006Dark ruby brown colour. Lasting tanned head. Fruity flavour leading to a gentle bitter finish. OK beer. PorterPounder (3131), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 16, 2005 Whole Foods, Baton Rouge, La. - 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very thick, dark chestnut brown with a very thick, creamy eggnog colored head. Thik, molasses like aroma with some chewing tobacco notes and a hint of alcohol. Flavor has plenty of dates, raisins, baked brown bread, sweet ripe cherries and a hint of alcohol. Tastes like a dopplebock. Creamy mouthfeel, strong finish. sammy3D (114), Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA Nov 15, 2005 Pours a nice dark red with a diminishing head. Aroma is banana candy with a hint of spice. Tastes of banana bread with a slight nutty quality (maybe from pouring the yeast?) and touches of sugar candy, licorice. Some bit of spiciness in the finish serves to balance the sweet aroma and flavor. Fizzy feel with a little alcohol burn. Fairly yummy Trappist brew. altkencru (143), USA Nov 15, 2005 Not one of my first choices for a dubbel, but not bad overall. Not too sweet and fairly smooth. MoritzF (4856), Bochum, Germany Nov 8, 2005 (bottle) Clear and dark, slightly hazy red-amber colour with a mid-sized foamy tanned head. Dusty yeasty and sweet malty aroma with liquorice and cassis. Medium body, moderate carbonation, light bitter flavour. Moderately sweet toastmalty taste with fruits and a touch of bubblegum, light dry and moderately bitter aftertaste with notes of liquorice.
