Ruby brown with small beige head. Aroma heavy malty (cokies, raisins, brown sugar, licorice), moderate hoppy. Flavour heavy sweet, moderate bitter. Medium body, oily, soft carbonated, the alcohol is felt. Very nice dubbel. pfr (121), København, Denmark Nov 6, 2005 Bottled. Ruby brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of lum, raisins, licorace, weakalcohol and some other things. Flavour of sweet cookies, raisins, licorace and weak sting of alcohol. Also some bitterness and sourness noted. Attractive ruby colour with lasting beige head. Lovely hedgerow fruit aromas. Some good yeast as well. Good burst of yeasty hoppy herb in mouth but soft mouthfeel too. Finish has more brambley fruit and spicey hop tang and some really nice chocolate. Yes like this and far better than the blond puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 2, 2005 A very nice dubbel from La Trappe. Aroma is the highlight of the beer, being very hearty and robust, with artichoke, plum, cherry, a little sweetness. Pours a dark brown with a nice head that quickly fades, leaving a little lacing. Taste is veggies, belgian malt flavors, caramel, a bit of cocoa perhaps. Palate is nice but could be a good bit creamier. egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2005 Poured a reddish brown color with a thin, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of figs, caramel malt, cherries, rum, raisins, spices, and light citrus. Taste of caramel malt, some nuts, roast, dried fruits and alcohol as well. Lively carbonation. Thanks BrianO!
