Bottle conditioned. Brown chestnut with tan head. Deliberately aged 3 yrs. Full rich winey beer with dark fruits and a sweet apple background. Sl sugary throughout with a dark malty roasted flavour. Plenty of alcohol though a slightly oily finish. Smashing beer.

Bov (7364) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - OCT 26, 2003
cloudy dark brown colour, fine head and a nice lacing, malt and yeast aroma with stong notes of raspberry bubblegum (typical of the recent La Trappe products), tart and sweet, very creamy mouthfeel, the finish is dry and malty with a quite unpleasant bubblegum feeling - this brewery does not deserve to be called trappist anymore

Bottle from Koningshoeven 4 pack. Poured dark brown with a large fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malty tart fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium balanced malty flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Bottle: A bit unclear, rather quickly vanishing off-white head, ruby-amber coloured; caramelly and toasty nose with a fruity background; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied. a distinctive fruity touch and traces of cacao in the drier bitter-sweet finish. Pleasant..........

A Mes rate: Aroma is almost overwhelmingly of seafood and particularly mussels. Comes through in the flavour too. Soap suds and a little too bland in the mouthfeel. Iron filings in the flavour and a hint of sweetness at the finish. Nothing special at all and not a patch on their quad (or their blond for that matter). There are MUCH better dubbels.

On tap at Café Belgique, Amsterdam on 8 April 2011. Thought I would try this as I hadn’t reviewed it on draught before. Turns out I hadn’t reviewed it at all. Reddish colour. Diminishing cream head. Fruity but not too sweet. Some plummy / cherry notes. Subtle sour edge in the aftertaste. Quite tasty and satisfying.

Gelungen! Test vom 12.5.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,10,11,11,12,11 - 10,90

Clear brown ale with a creamy white head. Sweet caramel aroma with orange, nuts, and smooth alcohol. In mouth, tingly soices come out over the sweet candy malt, with light alcohol notes. Bottle at Pub Italia.
