| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 4, 2003 Pours a dark, clear brown color with a big tan head that lingers. The aroma is strongly malty sweet with hints of plums and raisons. Full body with low carbonation, the flavor is thick and richly malty, with hints of caramel and chocolate. The finish is lingering sweet with a touch of chocolate. One of the better doubles I have had, this one is nice and malty, much like a doppelbock. Excellent. Hangover (772), Atlanta, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2004 Only my second dubbel so I don’t have a lot to compare it to. Pours a somewhat clear brown color with a smooth and decently lasting head. Aroma is primarily malt, with notes of ginger and nutmeg. Surprisingly complex taste, with malt, spice, caramel, raisin, yeast and bananna. Spicy, bubblegum finish. Interesting. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 16, 2006 dark brown beer that pours with a bit of a disappoint head for a trappist beer. aroma is sweet and malty. flavor is sweet, needs more hops, and slightly spicy from the yeast. good palate. dissappointing for a trappist beer. mmmbeer (766), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 31, 2008 11.2 oz bottle poured into trappist glass- poured 15% transparent when held to a light source, brownish black color, high-medium carbonation. Off tan head bubbled away rather quickly. Aroma of figs, darkened malt, caramel, and chocolate. HIts the mouth with a medium body, very dry from start to finish, the heavier smells come through sharply on the palate, sweetness and a sharp varnish like taste come in on the finish. Very complex, but that takes away from the overall taste in my opinion- too many things going on leads to chaos and distracts from actually enjoying a brew. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2007 Bottle. Pours with a copper color. Aromas are typical of a Belgian double, some dough, and some fruit. Flavor is fruity, with hints of caramel and bread.
Failry subtle yeast flavors and a solid body and mouthfeel. jayme9874 (756), Hamburg, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2003 Deep chestnut, thin head and little lace. Nose of brown sugar, cookie dough, caramel and other phenols. Medium bodied at best, fairly lush feel, sweet brown sugar and caramel flavors melding not to gracefully with the hops, has an unpleasant acidity to it that doesnt fit. Fairly bitter in finish with phenols lingering. Ok at best.
