4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dexcansino (249) - Andalucía, SPAIN - MAY 15, 2013

33cl bottle @ home. One of the best dubbels for me. Not too sweet. Nice brown color. Has a little taste of caramel.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 maruno (12) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 12, 2013
From 75cl bottle in original glass. Pours with a quickly dissapearing head; flat brown. Bittersweet with nice and medium soft carbonization. Mostly caramel and dark bread. Bitter finish.

Keg @ Den Tatoverede Enke. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The aroma’s red apple, plum, forest fruit. Belgian yeasty sweetness. The taste is more plum, pear. Mild spice and toffee. Sweet finish. Full body, soft carbonation. Overall, OK. Quite sweet.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Unde (88) - FINLAND - MAY 7, 2013
Beautiful looking beer, dark brown in colour. Very typical belgian head which doesn’t go anywhere. It’s like an cloud on top of my beer. Scent has some sweetness but is dominated by this red wine type of smell, perhaps tannins? Taste is sweet, with bread like malts, and some cream at the end. Some roasted feel at start but it stays behind. Something is missing here, could be better.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Hanuta06 (142) - Washington, USA - MAY 7, 2013
Serving: from bottle.
Aroma: light, banana aroma.
Appearance: small, rocky, light-brown, initial head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Hazy, dark-red/light brown body.
Taste: moderately sweet, cherry and caramel-like, initial flavor and finish with average duration.
Palate: medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation.
Overall: very good. Interesting flavor.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 chinchill (579) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Aged 750 ml bottle served in a St. Bernardus snifter.
Pours more-or-less clear, dark ruby-mahogany in color, with a nice fluffy cream colored head. The head initially leaves nice lacing on the glass, but it has poor retention and soon reduces to a thin ring.
Aroma: rich and complex, but gentle aroma of dark fruits and spices, with suggestions of raisins, dates, figs, toffee, brown sugar, banana, flowers, brown bread, cinnamon, chocolate and some earthy yeast. Fantastic aroma!
Taste: rich, dynamic and complex; mildly bitter/sweet with suggestions of raisins, dates, figs, toffee, brown sugar, banana, brown bread, chocolate and some spicy yeast. Lingering notes of dark fruits, chocolate, dark malts and light spicing.
Medium carbonation and medium+ body. Slightly harsh; about as expected with 7% ABV.
Overall: this excellent Dubbel lives up to its reputation. Great balance and complexity Alcohol is partially hidden but with light warming after the finish. Exceptionally enjoyable.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 commonmac (8) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 4, 2013 does not count
Draft at Bulldog Downtown. Bearing in mind this beer is achingly wanting to be a quadrupel, a very solid beer. Sweet aroma with almost hints of date. Starts well with malty sweetness and a full mouthfeel but stops short of excellence.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NikkTwist (881) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 30, 2013
Draft at Eulogy. Wonderful rich dark copper pour with islands of white foam. Glows like a candy red apple in front of bright light. Sugar plums. Dried cherries. Cinnamon. Rhubarb. Currents. Rich sweet malty dark red fruit. Touch sour. Notable spice for balance. Medium-full body. Very nice refined Dubbel. Much better than I was expecting. This is the only major La Trappe brew that I had not had and am now kicking myself for not having it earlier. Found it on draft here, not sure if the bottle is a match in taste.
