2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SilkTork (4738) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - DEC 13, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2008 Dec, 2002 Malt. That’s all. Just bloody malt. This is crude stuff - like a homebrew gone badly wrong. Malt. With alcohol. Not complex, delicious malt full of flavours - just malt. Malt. Malt. Malt. And alcohol. Why did the monks chose the Bavaria Brewery? Bavaria have no experience in top fermented brewing. This is dreadful. Just malt. I seriously cannot believe how bad this is. Because it’s called a Trappist ale and it tastes this bad this deserves the lowest possible marks. Just malt for christsakes! Nov, 2005 Surprisingly light bodied - quite thin in fact. Dry. Chocolate notes. Some dark bitterness. Not much of interest happening. [2.4]
Oct, 2008 Light bodied and dry. Light malt flavours. Lack of character. It’s bottle conditioned, but only just - has a clean filtered feel to it. Licorice, chalk, malt bread, orange and chocolate flavours. Awareness of alcohol. For a strong malty brown beer, the sort the Belgians make a lot of, there are plenty much better than this. [2.7]
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 ThomasE (5176) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUL 28, 2004
Nice red colour with very small head, looks almost as a glass of red wine. Aroma is sweet with lots of fruit. Flavor is very, very sweet, to sweet for my taste.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 mabjork (655) - Vasa, FINLAND - FEB 25, 2006
Draught@Vanha posti in Tampere. Black in colour. Rich creamy beige head. The aroma consists of sweetly burnt malt with caramel. It has a sweet flavour of burnt malt and a sweet & sour aftertaste.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Crash (507) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - MAR 11, 2005
I normally like this style and judging from the other ratings, other people do also. There was just something wrong with this beer. It just wasn’t what I expected.

slighlty bitter, but heavily carbonated.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Bov (7364) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - OCT 26, 2003
cloudy dark brown colour, fine head and a nice lacing, malt and yeast aroma with stong notes of raspberry bubblegum (typical of the recent La Trappe products), tart and sweet, very creamy mouthfeel, the finish is dry and malty with a quite unpleasant bubblegum feeling - this brewery does not deserve to be called trappist anymore
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 hennes (932) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - FEB 5, 2002
I had a miserable brewpub Dubbel tonight as well and was hoping this beer would show me what the style is supposed to taste like. Sadly, it’s pretty weak out of the bottle, not much taste at all, just a hint of spice, and poor carbonation. What flavour there was was decent, but so small.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - SEP 27, 2003
Reddish brown body, small tan head receding quickly, phenolic (I've learned a word here) nose. Somewhat blah sweet flavor and rather dead palate. Not very good at all.
