Rich chocolate and malt aroma accompany this deep, dark red beer with a persistent head. Creamy mouthfeel with heavy malting, including plum, brown sugar, and oak with an underlying yeastiness. Mellow finish with very little alcohol presence make this quite smooth and enjoyable. 2000/2001 Vintage.

An extremely well balanced beer. Beautifully malty and an amazingly pleasant aftertaste. Tastes of caramel and spices. A great Belgian Dubbel. BRAVO!

Deep ruby body with big beige head. Aroma is sweet, slightly yeasty, caramel, and undoubtedly Belgian. Sweet malty flavor, rich. Develops chocolate and roasty characteristics as it warms.

Well balanced. Tastes of caramel. Sweet at first but has a smooth finish. Wonderful example of the style.

33 cl bottle, served in Westmalle chalice. Pours a deep reddish-brown. Decent head that rapidly fades. The aroma is full of pleasant fruitiness (banana, kiwi?). Taste-wise it's well rounded, again w/ banana up front, and a soft, pleasant maltiness. Nice mouthfeel and very good drinkability. A fine dubbel, better than most I've tried.

A good dubbel, particularly after it’s been aged for a few years or so. Otherwise this one can be a bit harsh, almost like Chimay Blanche somehow (which is odd). Over time, though, this beer becomes at least as smooth as any decent triple-style beer.

330mL Bottle. Rated blind. Twelfth out of a set of 12 Abbey Dubbels. Aroma is rich with spiced white figs, cooked pears, and pale caramel. Zested tangerines fall in. Pours a dark red-copper, clearish, with a settle, super-soft head of tan. Flavor is zesty and super fruity. Beautiful almond paste, eggnog, and mulled spices. Juicy yeast esters, a twinge of hops, and great caramelized sugars mingle for a beautiful sensation. The best for last! This was far and way the best example in my book. Great spiciness from the yeast, wonderful chewy dark malts, balance from refined alcohols, and all around tightness. Stunning. GUESS: Chimay or Rochefort

Great bottle, like a clay jug, good start. Apperance, a bit thinner than more trappist dubbels, but very nice all the same. Aroma is just another trappist ale, which i may be bias on since i love all trappist ales there is. Taste is wonderful, maybe thinner and less complex than others of this style, but dark fruits, wheat, alround goodness, im so glad i found this. Alround great beer, not hitting any new levels of goodness as there r better out there, but nice and refreshing to see a trappist ale that u can have a few of without falling off your seat.

One of the 5 beers in the world still brewn in a monastery. Very good aroma. Perfect example of a good dubbel beer.
