mmm///beer (578), Austin, Texas, USA May 31, 2008 11.2 oz bottle poured into trappist glass- poured 15% transparent when held to a light source, brownish black color, high-medium carbonation. Off tan head bubbled away rather quickly. Aroma of figs, darkened malt, caramel, and chocolate. HIts the mouth with a medium body, very dry from start to finish, the heavier smells come through sharply on the palate, sweetness and a sharp varnish like taste come in on the finish. Very complex, but that takes away from the overall taste in my opinion- too many things going on leads to chaos and distracts from actually enjoying a brew.
lumpsowers (87), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Sep 30, 2008 Very malty, thick mouthfeel, nice and sweet, tastes like a nutty fig or raisin, delicious! spkevin (22), Doetinchem, Netherlands Sep 29, 2008 bottle.my second la trappe beer. im starting to like these abbey dubbels. pours dark ruby red with beige head wich quickly turns into a small foam. aroma is very strong and impressive. taste is complex with sweet and bitter notes. still got some bottles left. Beth101 (128), West Yorkshire, England Sep 21, 2008 Smelt sweet. Colour of coke with a large of white head. Sweet and syrupy but not much flavour it was smooth and thick. fata2683 (183), APO, New York, USA Sep 14, 2008 From the corked stone bottle. Nicely packaged beer that doesn’t disappoint. Pours a murky brown with a light tan head. Smells wonderfull....spice, hops, cedar. Tastes slightly sweet, really is nicely balanced with bitterness. Excellent. lievenvh (13), , Belgium Sep 7, 2008 caramel, toast, brown, sparkling, tan foam, full body, average carbonation, long finish,
