Bottled. Not a headknocker, but pleasant enough. Cream colored head itself has nice, spicy, candy taste. Nice brown beer with orange highlights, shows bubbles drifting up as sediment settles down. Taste brings out oranges, raisins, a bit of wine and light spiciness, on a well-warmed, rather that roasted, malt base. Comes off like a fresh barley wine. May not be the very best of its kind, but darn close, and its alcohol warmth makes a nice way to break a Lenten abstinence of over a month (and circumstances kept me away from home where I had a store of actual Trappist ales to enjoy on Easter. This was a good substitute).

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aroma is strong and malty. Red dark color. Generous head. Maybe surprisingly strong carbonation for a belgian beer but the equilibrated taste is nice. Caramel, honey malty taste. Full body but not too heavy, Sweet on the palate with long finish. Ready to drink one more!

Out of all the La Trappe beers so far, my least favorite. Although it has a dark and complex taste, it simple doesn’t do it for me.

Ganske god Dubbel, ikke helt oppe at ringe. Savner lidt fylde. Meget mørk, flot skum.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thinner palate than Westmalle and not as complex aromas or flavors. Aromas of caramel, toast, spicy phenols and belgian banana esters. Flavors of spicy belgian yeast, ripe banana, raisin. Carbonation not as high as other belgians. Finish is not completely dry, leaving a bit of sugary coating.
