"Discover this genuine dark Trappist beer with a gentle flavour, creamy head and pronounced bouquet.
La Trappe Dubbel has a deep brown colour and attractive beige froth. The use of caramel malt gives it a gentle aromatic caramelised quality. It has a rich malty flavour with a touch of sweetness. Post-fermenting La Trappe Dubbel is a smooth drink, and yet has some real body and intense flavour to it.

Pours deep brown with reasonable tan head. Aroma is sweet golden syrup, dates, raisins and plums. Mouthfeel is full. This beer is full of flavour for a dubbel. Very good example of the style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At the habit in York. Dark beer by my standards but quite fruity and smooth. Very nice

Have had this since the 80’s, but never before in my RB life. 33 cl bottle shared, young. Nice dark red-brown color. Creamy light beige head with a layer of a few mm retention. Aroma’s: sweet, red fruit, peardrops. Flavor is moderate sweet, dark malts. Medium bodied. Not much of a finish. Decent but rather boring. I wonder whether it this tasted the same 20/25 years ago, I think it changed quite a bit.

The classic double La Trappe, with light beige, crackling head which collapses quite quickly and is almost completely gone in the end. Colour is a very dark burgundy with a certain orange hue, hazy after adding the deposit. Subtle but quite pleasant aroma of overripe plums, raisins, dried banana, brownies, toasted bread, iron, cloves, citrus peel, candi sugar, brown rhum. Taste starts sweetish, some candi sugar, candied fruits, pear, with medium strong, mineral-like and sourish carbonation, quite tingling on the sides of the tongue, otherwise slick and smooth mouthfeel, caramelly maltiness with nutty touches here and there, a bit chocolatey even but in a subtle way, some iron, finishing with slight toasted bitterness, some residual sweetness from the onset but not cloyingly so, leafy hop bitterishness and just a little bit of warming, gin-like alcohol, subtle and not disturbing in any way; also a somewhat dull sourishness lingering on, quite long. Sweetish to dryish in other words, but all -ish, if you see what I mean... A bit too restrained for my taste, but admittedly this is a well-made dubbel. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a typical example of the style in order to get acquainted with it. Still, the La Trappe range cannot convince me like the Belgian trappist ales do, they just do not have the same amount of distinctiveness and personality, at least since Bavaria took over.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours deep amber with off white head. Good aroma of warming stewed fruits. Taste is a big flavoursome dubbel with dark fruits, malts, bubblegum and caramel. Rich, smooth and delicious. One of the best dubbels out there in my opinion.

Bottiglia da 0,33. Birra eccezionale. Schiuma corposa e persistente. Colore ambrato. Carbonatura equilibrata. Aroma deciso e piacevolmente affumicato. Sentori di legno. Gusto fruttato pieno e duraturo. Finale caramellato. Peccato sia già finita! Consiglio 10/10
