3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours clear, dark amber. small white head. Smell is bit oxidized. Taste is oxidized, but not too bad. Got some oak notes left. some walnutty flavor. As typical for aged beers, this one feels light in the mouth, but releases a wide range of subtile aroma’s. sweet malts, but also some metallic tones ( in a good way ) as well as some dark fruityness. I think I might have enjoyed it less when fresh, knowing the la trappe beers, but i do enjoy this one as it is now.

Ik heb deze nou een paar keer geprobeert maar het bier kan me niet bekoren. Wel mooie kleur en schuimlaag. Mooi aroma maar smaak en afdronk zijn minder.

Reminds me of wine. It’s deep and flavorful. Has a malty sweetness to it. Pretty alright.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle bought at La Trappe years ago, small sample, served in a taster glass. Slight hazy amber color, short head. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, vanilla, slight oak wood, slight fruity. Soft sweet taste, caramel. Holds up remarkably well after a couple of years still. I had this one fresh before, and it was almost as good. Oak aging works great with the soft sweet base beer without making it too thin. Great example of how oak aging can improve a beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Caramel yeast aroma. Full bodied with distinguished lasting head and excellent lacing. Initially sweet with a distinguished earthy finish and quickly evaporating aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Better than the regular version, though I had them months apart. dry and yeasty, flavor of pitted dark fruits works really well here...

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
5th August 2014
Bright clear red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry with fine carbonation. Light dry creamy malt, whisper of caramel. Mild dried fruits. Light bubblegum ester. Light dry finish. Fine but something of a let down, was expecting much more.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Pours clear and light amber with an average, creamy, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma of spices, caramel, wood and with notes of yeast. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with a hint of bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A nice brew.
