3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JorisPPattyn (6747) - Antwerpen, - SEP 30, 2011
Small yellow-cream head over hazy brown-amber beer. Vinous, dark red berries, praline-like chocolate, liqueurish. Vinous taste, again liqueurish as some typical well-known smooth liqueurs; preserved ginger but not sharp, slightly bitterish. Warming up, blue cheese. Well-bodied, but not viscous or chewy - better attenuated. The oak aging has done a world of good to the basic Isid’or.

A very nice trappist. Fruity and malt-forward, similar in character to to their Quadruppel but with a lighter body and prominent oak character. Not worth the price but nice to try.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jerohen (1797) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - FEB 26, 2012
Bottled from the monastery, tasted side by side with the regular Isid’or. Hazy orange/amber colored, lasting head. Very malty and woody nose, some yeast, caramel, fruity notes. Sweet and bitter flavor, malts and oak again, some alcohol shining through. Tastes a lot stronger that it actually is (only 7.5%). Very good, it really feels like this beer was made to be oak aged (which beforehand i would have never thought). Pretty expensive, but this time it may be worth it.
