COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Pours clear pale to medium amber with two fingers of light tan head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, no lacing. (4/5) Nose is caramel and toffee, raisins and other dark boozy fruits, some cloves and other spices. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter and spiciness. (7/10) Medium body tending a bit to the thin, moderate sustained carbonation, mildly boozy finish. (3/5) A decent trappist, with a well-integrated ABV. I found the flavour and body to tend a bit to the thin side, though - felt to me like some more weight would have been appropriate. Certainly worth trying, but I’m not sure it’s worth a special effort.(14/20)

Draught. Amber-reddish colour with small head. Aroma is intensive red fruit, mostly strawberry and raspberry, some caramel and honey. Alcohol well hidden. High sweetness. Very similar to La Trappe Quad. Good one.

Typical Belgian ale aroma. Rather malty. Got an alcohol hit. Followed by a light liquorice aftertaste. Nice mouthfeel.

Bottle. Excellent Belgian-style ale, soft, caramel, can not too rich, but quite nice.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2015 deep amber with a dusting of off-white head. Aroma is apple-strawberry tart, some dusty mineral notes, hints of candy strawberry-raspberry syrup, caramel and toffee. Body is medium weight, oily with moderate, medium-fine coarseness carbonation, considerable prickly burn. Flavor is very odd - mineral, earthy mushroom, some caramel, spicy herb, bread crust, raisin, nice balance between toasted bread and light herbal bitterness in the aftertaste. An umami blast, weird. A refreshing take on a Belgian Ale! Delicious aroma, interesting flavor, but not wholly appetizing.

Pours amber to brown colour with a small, unstable head. Aroma is a classic belgian bouquet: a hint of banana and cloves, a lot of caramel, raisins, peach, spices. Taste follows the above with extremely well hidden alcohol and nice, herbal bitterness in the finish. The beer is somewhat light and easy drinkable, thus quite treacherous. For those who like classical belgian styles a must try, for the rest it may seem a bit too tame.

Bottle - Hazy amber color with a fast disappearing beuge head - Aroma is malty, spicy, caramel, hints of dried fruits - Flavor is spicy from yeast, spicy, caramel, malty, good malt backbone, earthy hops - Medium body, fizzy carbonation, light bitterness, spicy caramel finish - Good trappist but nothing special to say

Good color and aroma. Poured with a big 2 finger head, but dissipitated fairly quickly. Taste is above average but not the best trappist. Overall very drinkable and respectible ale
