Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

June 4, 2014. 750mL bottle from LCBO. Warm reddish brown, opaque white head. Aromas of raisins, ripe fruit, toffee. Quite lovely. Raisins and toffee flavours, small bite. Not as nice as the other La Trappes, but quite lovely.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet Netshop enjoyed at home
Pours copper, very hazy, tanned head. Smell of fruits, raisins, burnt caramel and spices. Moderate sweet, spicy, some fruityness and nuts, quite dry mouthfeel, moderate bitter. Elegant abbey style belgian. Nice yeast influence and a nice malty body

330ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Preparation: Bottle stored at refrigerator at around 4°C; Popped at room temperature of 10°C (within recommended temperature range) onto the Chimay chalice.

Looks: Cloudy hazy amber brown colour with dirt-like yeast sediments; One and a half finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 90 seconds; Excellent sticky lacing with very slight carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant sweet malt, with strong banana, vanilla, caramel, whipped cream, sugar, faint alcohol, faint dark fruits, strong Bel yeast, very light phenolic and faint lemon.

Taste: Close to medium sweet malt, with banana, plum, light alcohol, molasses, sugar, spices, strong ester, strong Bel yeast, lemon, fresh lime and moderate bitter grassy hops.

Body: Medium. Thick and quite creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Moderate Amber maltyness, body is thin but still quite wholesome. Very good Bel yeast with quite tasty esters includes banana, plums / dark fruits, strong spices and slight phenolic. Booze is light, notable but harmless. Just-right sweetness and molasses. Good stuff!

Hoppiness: Faint lemon aroma, fresh lime, light spice and grass in taste. Bitterness is slightly stronger than most Bel Ales for a lasting, low-fi bitter-sweet finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Low bitter and spicy to mouth.

Comments: This one is a rock-solid, strong Belgian amber ale. With very nice Belgian yeast to provide aromatic and tasty fruity esters, and good hoppiness for fresh citrus and spicy tastes. Definitely quality stuff, and only a few steps away from being tops. Enjoyable!

A rich amber colored beer with a super size foamy white head. Extremely well carbonated that helps to maintain the foamy head to the bitter end. (get it!) Aroma is of rich complex malts fruity yeast and some bitter hops. A rich tasting beer smooth and creamy with a sweet caramel maltiness some toasted malts can be picked up too. The hops take a back seat, typical of Belgian pale ales, and are slightly bitter. I can taste a fair amount of alcohol warming too. A well made beer I think with lots of nice lacing. With a dry finish

Bottle 0,33l. Pours a lightly hazy orange copper color with a medium dense and fluffy light head with great retention, that reduces to a nice lacing. Aromas of raisin, plum, pear, apple, light banana, clove, candi sugar, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Taste of raisin, plum, pear, apple and banana. Medium carbonation. Oily texture. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
