COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

330 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 3/5/2013. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of golden raisin, plum, pear, apple, light banana, clove, toast, brown bread, candi sugar, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of golden raisin, plum, pear, apple, light banana, clove, caramel, toast, brown bread, candi sugar, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy clove spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of golden raisin, plum, pear, apple, clove, caramel, toast, brown bread, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian amber ale. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

0.33l bottle. Hazy deep orange body, off-white head. Aroma of champagne yeast, pepper, orange zest, floral hops and candi sugar. Taste of bread, orange zest, candi sugar, floral hops with a slight sour character. Nice one.

Bottle courtesy of and shared with heavy who found it at Vrutak (thanks!). Poured a misty dark amber body with a huge off white head. Lovely aroma, creamy, spicy, sweet, apricot, some banana, but also some alcohol, hm. The taste is immediately a disappointment afterwards, meaty yeastiness initially sweet, gets better later on, giving out some weak esters, but never enchants, no hop flavor left, some unappealing bitterness maybe. As it warms, the taste develops, and it turns out a decent beer worthy of the La Trappe name.

Red/brown color with a persistent beige foam. Aroma of sweet caramel and toffee, with intense notes of plum, cherry and peach. Taste is similar to the aroma, with fruit, caramel and toffee at the same level which makes it a very balanced beer.

Bottle. Light amber, cloudy, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty - some wheat and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness, light alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness. Finish is average, malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish, light caramel with light fruitiness, faint hoppyness light yeast and alcohol. OK aroma with tropical fruitiness. Flavor/finish almost totally lack the fruitiness. Trappist or not, but this one is really nothing special - lacks character.

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Big frothy tan head which settles quickly. Copper orange clear body. Aroma is mainly malt, caramel, banana, a little boozy. Sweet on the tongue, but not too much. Some bitterness. Medium dry finish. An excellent trappist beer!

Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Pours brown to caramel color. A tiny bit of white to very slight tan head. Raisin, caramel. malt, some wort, hint of alcohol nose. Medium body. Could be a bit fuller. Below average carbonation. Sweet, with a medium bitter ending. Caramel, raisin, candy, date, some wort, red and ripe green fruit flavour. Extraordinary good. Style seems very close to a quadruple.
