Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Somehow managed to miss this one before Jun. ’14. Had it from a 0.33 l bottle bought in Vrutak store, Zagreb. It poured, hazy brown-reddish body with compact, long lasting white head. Fine and delicious, typical Belgian ale aroma, yeasty vanilla, banana, some caramel. Flavor inclined to lightly sweet side, quite yeasty (too much), other than that fruity, mostly peach, a bit alcoholic and not nearly as complex nor pleasant as the nose. Medium bodied with creamy palate and again a bit more pleasant finish that was well rounded despite flaws in the flavor. Still quite sweet and warming/alcoholic. Not so bad, but expected more.

Best looking trappist imo, beautiful hazy amber colour with a beige creamy nicely lacing head. Nuanced flavours, fruity (peach), yeasts and softening creamy malts. Soft mouthfeel but high carbonation, good body.

33cl bottle. Pours a beautiful reddish amber color with a thick, long lasting creamy light beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, butter biscuits, banana, light spices. Taste is similar with a light final bitterness. Medium to light carbonation, medium body, oily texture. Very good.

Pours a beautiful amber, copper color, with a decent, fizzy head. Aromas of banana and toffeish malts are escaping from the glass. Almost juicy banana along with cane sugar and a subtle hop dryness, including dough wheat, which blends well into the malty body of the beer. The hops compliment to the sweeter body of the beer, not only by adding balancing bitterness, but also by giving the malts a bready characteristic, including a somehow chewy aspect to the otherwise smooth mouthfeel. Finishes with a noteable, lively carbonation, which brings out honey and raisins. This gets accompanied by a supportive bitterness, which leaves the palate a little earlier than the malts do.

Hefig, Karamell, malzig, brotig, dunkle Früchte. Am Gaumen ebenso. Angenehme Kohlensäure. Überdurchschnittlich, aber nicht weltklasse.

Pours slightly hazy brown/reddish with a minimal fizzy off-white head. Toasty malt smell. Some fruits, bit alcoholic. Pleasant for a cold day like this. Not astonishing though. Taste is filled with loads of malty sweetness. Slightly bitter with some notes of caramel, some dark fruits, bit of banana... Bready, bit spicy and yeasty with a small roastiness overarching the total... It is certainly flavorful. Finish is a bit dry, yet the sweeter notes linger quite long. The alcohol is present in the taste, yet it feels very soft. Didn’t expect it to be that soft after its bit strong presence in the aroma. Well done. Mouthfeel is pretty warming with clear presence of the carbonation. medium bodied with a bit thinnish (surprisingly) and sticky texture. Expected it to be a bit sirupy instead. However, the Isid’or is certainly a tasty, appealing and well-crafted beer which wouldn’t fail on cold autumn days.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. There is a big caramel malt character, a soft toffee note in the finished. Loads of malty sweetness. Some fruity alcohol flavors.
