COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

0,33 liter fles. Thuis gedronken. Heerlijk bier met een fantastische smaak. Ik dronk hem niet erg koud waardoor de smaak nog beter tot zijn recht komt.

You’ll definitely like it if you’re into the 7/8% range of Belgians, though compared to others in the same range, I found the aftertaste on the palate a little too bitter and longlasting. Still very good.

330ml Bottle courtesy of Shivan Dragon in Feb 2016 Euro Trade - thanks very much. An appealing looking beer – hazy deep honey amber with a large, frothy, off-white head that sticks around for ages. There’s yeast, wheat, sweet, ripe, fruity esters, caramel and a bit of gas in the nose. The taste is sweet and rich up front yet the finish is long and bone dry. There are big, syrupy canned pear and apple notes at first but a lot of depth to the flavour and caramel, berries and even pepper can be found. It’s full-bodied and thick on the palate yet very smooth and dry enough to want to keep drinking. Easy to drink even at 7.5% ABV. Plenty to like.

33cl bottle, served in trappist chalice. Poured an amber with a one finger ivory head. Aromas of caramel, banana, roasted malts. Taste: caramel, toast with jam, banana, plums, some leathery notes, very frothy on the palate. Medium body with a bittersweet finish. Overall not a bad brew but a bit too bitter and leathery.

33cl bottle. Dark amber pour with thin off-white head, some lacing. Aromas of cheese, hay and toast. Taste is sweet and malty, some bitterness and alcohol on the nose. Low carbonation, slightly oily palate. Aftertaste is alcohol and sweet malts. Not very good, too aggressive boozing.

Bottle at home. Reddish amber, creme head. Sweet malts, sugar, candy coating, banana, coriander, orangepeel, cloves, cinnamon. Big sweet, medium bitter, slightest tartness (from yeast). Full body, frothy texture, abrupt stale, dry leathery finish. Strong carbonation. Too much sugar up front, too little deep flavor.

33cl bottle on 15-Sep-2015. Aroma of stewed fruit. Hazy orange brown colour with a medium sized tan coloured head. Sweet - flavour of fruit, caramel, cloves and vanilla. Slightly bitter, lightly spiced aftertaste. A lively Trappist ale.

Chmiel: Perle (DE)
Kolor : Ciemny bursztyn. Bardziej mętne niż klarowne.
Piana: Budyniowata, w kolorze ecru.
Smak: Głęboki, wyraźny i trwały. Smak jest odzwierciedleniem tego co w aromacie. Szczególnie owocowe nuty z brzoskwiniami i morelami przyjemnie ocierają się o język. Na dalszy plan schodzą karmel i przyprawy. Alkohol subtelnie rozgrzewa, ale nie jest drapiący. Goryczka niska, owocowa. Piwo jest dość pełne.
Wysycenie: Średnie.
Podsumowanie:
Nazwa piwa (Isid’or) pochodzi od imienia brata Izydora (Isidorus) - pierwszego browarnika holenderskiego klsztoru Trappistów - Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven.
