COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

11.2 ounce bottle in Chimay glass. Caramel color with dense beige head and some lace. Spicy bready marshmallow aroma. Spicy sweet marshmallow caramel tomato tobacco with spicy and sweet lingering finish without cloying. Pretty darn complex. Not what I was expecting, but very good.

Bottle from Rainhall Drinks Co, Accrington. Poured a hazy dark copper colour with a decent, steadily fading biege head. Sweetish malt nose with yeast, spice and orchard fruit notes. Interesting flavour that had more of the same characteristics found in the aroma, with some gently warming booze. Some dryness cropped up towards the finish. Alright stuff.

Pours cloudy amber with a hint of orange, thick beige head that dissipated slowly and left very nice lacing. Tyoical Belgian yeasty aroma with melon, cloves, banana, and spices. Subtle candy sugar sweetness and tart apples up front, with a hint of offsetting bitterness. Banana sweetness and spices in the finish. Medium body, lively carbonation, and very smooth on the palate.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2011 Deep copper orange with a beautiful white head. Beautifully sweet complex aroma with interesting hop notes. A dry semi sweet flavor with an earthy roastiness. Very complex yet sublte, a bit like orval in a sense.

Pours amber, fizzy off white head. Aroma is clovy, full of Belgian yeast character with a bit of candi sugar, like a tripel.
Nice body, classic Belgian notes of clove, herbs, sugar. Hints of banana esters. Spritzy on the tongue. Austere bitterness on the finish.

Bottle. Amber coloured pour with a medium beige head. Malty, fruity aroma. Caramel, fruity, yeasty, little sweet, watery taste. For some reason I was expecting this to be a great beer but it was rather poor, I love their Quadrupel though.
