Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

750ml bottle, shared with cousins. They seemed to enjoy it. Orange-amber color, active-looking carbonation. Off-white head that fades to minimal. Yeast on the bottom of the bottle. Soft carbonation. Dry, smooth texture. Nice, darker fruity aroma. Some raisin, caramel malt. Light sweet taste, light bitter. Well-done ale.

1st had this beer in De Bierboom (Brugge) and bought this 33cl bottle (Euro 1.60) to review at home. Best before 09-2013 and poured into a Westmalle chalice on a quiet Saturday night in (4th June 2011). . Looks the part, mini haze in the hazel-nut reddy/brown body, a thin but complete off-white foaming head sat on top. Bubbles rising to the surface throughout the tasting. The head also prouced some good heavy lacing. Toffee in the nose, and the sweeter end of the malt table, no burnt or toasted bread or chocolate, just a pleasant toffee aroma. The taste is a lovely blend of toffee flavours and understated hops, which give the beer a slight bitterness towards the end of the mouthfeel. The alcohol contend is well hidden and this is so easy to drink you could forget it has an ABV of 7.5%.

from Mise en Bière, Lausanne - pours a hazy dark amber beer with a persistent and creamy beige head; aroma of caramel and nougat with some yeasty notes and hints of banana; velvety palate and a good malt backbone, some sweetness and a late earthy bitterness; creamy caramelish aftertaste with more notes of yeast and honey
