Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2015 Small bottle. Hazy orange (amber) body. Aroma has yeast with apple and raisins. Slightly sourish taste of dark malt, nuts and berries. Quite dry finish. It’s a strange dry/sourish Trappist but not in a crazy brilliant way like Orval is. Re-rate 6/19/2013: Feels more satisfying this time. Finish feels sweeter this time. The best La Trappe. Another re-rate: aged bottle, a few months until BB runs out. Very mellow, Weizenbocky wheat and honey everywhere but also some dark grape sweetness. Light spiciness that lingers on the background but never gets too apparent. Fantasic balance. Still the best La Trappe by a fair margin.

Slightly cloudy, caramel colored with a fine-bubbled, small beige head.Sweet malt, expected yeasty scent, bananas, allspice. Chewy malts, nice feel, has a slight hop follow that attempts to balance the caramel sweetness. Not bad and my 1,100th rating on RB (after 13 years!)
