COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Somehow managed to miss this one before Jun. ’14. Had it from a 0.33 l bottle bought in Vrutak store, Zagreb. It poured, hazy brown-reddish body with compact, long lasting white head. Fine and delicious, typical Belgian ale aroma, yeasty vanilla, banana, some caramel. Flavor inclined to lightly sweet side, quite yeasty (too much), other than that fruity, mostly peach, a bit alcoholic and not nearly as complex nor pleasant as the nose. Medium bodied with creamy palate and again a bit more pleasant finish that was well rounded despite flaws in the flavor. Still quite sweet and warming/alcoholic. Not so bad, but expected more.

Best looking trappist imo, beautiful hazy amber colour with a beige creamy nicely lacing head. Nuanced flavours, fruity (peach), yeasts and softening creamy malts. Soft mouthfeel but high carbonation, good body.

33cl bottle. Pours a beautiful reddish amber color with a thick, long lasting creamy light beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, butter biscuits, banana, light spices. Taste is similar with a light final bitterness. Medium to light carbonation, medium body, oily texture. Very good.

Pours a beautiful amber, copper color, with a decent, fizzy head. Aromas of banana and toffeish malts are escaping from the glass. Almost juicy banana along with cane sugar and a subtle hop dryness, including dough wheat, which blends well into the malty body of the beer. The hops compliment to the sweeter body of the beer, not only by adding balancing bitterness, but also by giving the malts a bready characteristic, including a somehow chewy aspect to the otherwise smooth mouthfeel. Finishes with a noteable, lively carbonation, which brings out honey and raisins. This gets accompanied by a supportive bitterness, which leaves the palate a little earlier than the malts do.
