COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Pours a dark orange color with small light beige head. Hazy appearance. Smells fruity, mostly banana. Carbonation is a bit higher then expected for a beer of this style. Taste is a combination of sweet and bitter, some fruity notes, caramel, spices. Strong presence of alcohol in the finish. Overall - very good if you love this style, although it is a bit pricey... Personally, I found Dubbel to be more to my liking.

Bottle. BB 10.2016. Pours a beautiful, slightly reddish amber with an off-white head that only retains around the edge of the glass, then disappears. The aroma is initially rather faint, must be because it’s rather cool. Then after some time: yeasty, somewhat spicy, accompanied by hints of different yellow and dark fruits, and the grassy, minty, even floral Perle hops in the background. Tastes pretty round, the starting fruity sweetness quickly transforms to caramel, and then dry, hoppy bitterness. Pleasantly soft mouthfeel, paired with the stimulating bubbling. Overall a very nice Belgian.

Bottle from Drinkshop. Very easily drinkable, strikes a good balance between classic Belgian spicy yeastiness, slightly resemblant of trippels, and general caramelly maltiness. Hops is in the background. Easy drinking, good.

750 ml bottle from a small dépanneur in Gatineau.

Appearance: Pours a hazy orange with a couple fingers of white head. Retention is very short and lacing is non-existent.

Aroma: Belgian yeast, hazel nuts, fruity notes.

Flavours: Belgian yeast, flour, straw, nuts, dried fruit.

Mouthfeel: Thinner with average carbonation.

Overall: Decent Belgian Ale but not something I would rush out to buy again.
