COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Dark brown, light reddish in color. Taste is sweet, malty, with a complex spicy finish. Very aromatic, with a very smooth and excellent taste profile. Gotta have for any Belgian strong ale fan.

Bottle 330ml - cellared for approximately 1-2 years. Served at room temperature. Pours a clear amber. Head is large, fluffy, off-white and lasts very well. Flavour is a smooth with a light spicy/herbaceous hop bitterness; grains, hay, apple skins (green), crisp pears, lemon zest (light), Belgian candy sugar, green leaves (light), cloves (light) and a lightly peppery/dry finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a slightly oily texture and an average length finish.

300ml bottle shared with Lena (she’s very positive about this one) Pours amber with medium creamy head. Sweet aromas of caramel, bready malts. Taste is frooty and sweet with an medium bitter aftertaste. I like the balance of bitterness and sweetness, which makes this beer fresh, but i could wish for a more powerfull aroma and taste.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a glossy semi-dark amber color. Sustaining finger’s worth of glossy white head dissipated in a nice slow fashion. Slim lacing. The aroma takes on all of the normal Belgian sweet to spicy bready/yeasty goodness. Sly grassy sweetness with Belgian sweet sugar embalms it all together nicely. The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas to ride into a slight sticky Belgian sweet sugar aftertaste. Slight sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable to sipping feel to it. Overall, uh....wow, for a Belgian Strong Pale ale it more than works. Yeah, I’d have again.

Average frothy off-white head with good retention. Hazy orange light amber colour. Aroma is slightly spicy and caramel. It evolves to honey and almonds after a few minutes. Taste is not very complex, slightly spicy, esters, sugar.
