COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

750ml bottle. Served in a trappist glass. Appearance: Transparent golden brown, minimal carbonation, small fine beige head. Aroma: caramel, malt vanilla. Good, but nothing super complex. Palate: thick bodied, fizzy, creamy, slightly oily, slightly dry finish. Taste: Fairly savoury. No bitterness. Not bad, but not as complex as I’d hoped for.

Bottle from Za Popent shop, Ljubljana. Pours murky ruby. Nose is brown sugar, fruits, caramel. Taste is caramel malts, banana, spices, brown sugar, hops. Fizzy carbonation, light booziness.

75cl bottle, served in tulip. Pours hazy copper with small white lasting head. Soft candy aroma with some liquorice notes. The sweet flavour (not cloying) is balanced thanks to the hops, leading to a slightly dry lingering finish. Resembles fruity white wine, definitely very complex. Medium body, good carbonation. I got this for less than 6€...that means it is one of the cheapest good beers I’ve ever had.

Pours dark amber, nice head and lacing. Aroma of apricot, raisins, dark fruits, cloves, nutmeg and teast. Taste of dark fruits, spices. It tastes like it looks. Impression of warming Christmass ale. Very good.

Precioso color entre miel y caramelo. Turbia.

Nice thick light beige head with pleasant malt aromas. Clear but almost amber colored body. Dense palate and almost as aromatic and pleasant as a Westmalle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flasche 33cl. Caramellfarben, trüb, typische Carbonisierung. Schönes Hopfenbouquet. Bemerkenswert feinporiger, fast sahniger Schaum. Erfrischender Geschmack, der Alkohol bleibt dezent im Hintergrund. Wunderbar!

7.5% ABV Caramel nose. Sweet and creamy and refreshingly clean. Not cloying. Hoppy mouthfeel. The hops have an fresh, almost green herbaceous tang. When run fast over the tongue, has a light lemonade-like zing This wouldn’t be a Trappist if there weren’t more going on. The subplot in this ale tale is the 7.5% alcohol content which spins its very own tale. Wispy at first then coming on strong with ethanolic vigor and lingering all the way to the bitter end. Ah, I do so enjoy a well-spun tragedy. However, spending any time at all with a nicely chilled Isid’or is anything but. Overall a very drinkable and enjoyable beer.

750ml bottle from Halles St-Jean. Aroma: dark red fruits, sugar from candied fruits. App: cloudy copper-brownish, small white head. Taste and palate: full body, syrupy, fizzy making the tongue tingle, medium to high sweetness, lots of caramel in mouth, sweet fruity finish. Overall: kinda sweet but quite enjoyable. Definitely worth the $9.99 price tag.
