COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Aroma: fruity , estery front with phenolic backing. Mineral notes, sweet top. Predictable but good.
Appearance: hazed dark amber with plus sized tabbed top. Some lace shown. 4-
Body , Flavour , Palate and Final Notes: medium bodied. Rather strong frontal what character, some tartness, Belgian yeast, alcohol. Classic approach - what would you expect from something named Trappe.

Amber with very small white head but a lot of bubbles. Sweet malts with big spices (koriander, cinnamon, nutmeg). Nice dried fruits and some apple, prunes and orange. Nice yeast profile and faint liquorice. Medium bodied with prickly carbonation. Decent stuff.

Anniversary beer launched in 2009 with thick, creamy, yellowish white head and cloudy amber colour. Smoky aroma, caramel, meat, pear, pineapple, honey. Nutty and caramelly malt basis, clearly sweetened with extra caramel, light flowery hops in the finish. Enjoyable but like most of the La Trappe beers, clearly short of the world class one finds in the Belgian trappist brands, and I mean this objectively, without being chauvinist.

Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget. Gylden. Svakt uklar. Bra middels høyt skum som varer en stund. Aroma av frukt & krydder. Smaken er karamell - uten å bli for søt. Lite kullsyre. Smaken får et lite alkoholpreg etter hvert.

Een goed biertje. Ze hebben betere bieren bij La Trappe, maar dit was zeker niet slecht.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2014 330ml bottle. Dark wood amberish colour to it. Smells like caramel and peach. Makes love to your mouth and tongue in a lively and lovely threesome as soon as you pour it inside. As Ger puts it, it’s a beer sex symbol.

330ml bottle into a goblet. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown although I did let a bit of sediment slip into the glass. Solid one finger off-white head with very good head retention. Lacing was just so-so. Aroma is extremely fruity, even more so than other BPA’s I have had. There is almost a tropical character to it but quite a bit of cherry thrown in. Also some peach and peppery spice. Quite nice. The flavor carries over the fruitiness from the aroma with peach and cherry along with quite a bit of pepper and coriander. Nice bready malt in the background that plays nicely with the fruit. Very dry mouthfeel with abundant prickly carbonation. Overall, this is a very good BPA although it fall a bit short of being outstanding. I love the fruitiness but the malt could be turned up a bit. All in all, though, a good beer.
