Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2012 Tasted, draft, at the open brewery day. Pours dark orange, almost brown, very dense shiny head. Nose and aroma are very sweet, candy, caramel, ... Palate a bit too sticky as a result. Rerate: not that sticky as first.

On tap Na 7. schode - ochutnávková pivnica. Golden, creame beaige head, quit stable. Aroma spicy, pepper, herbs, some butter biscuits. Very soft carbonation, medium body, soft bitterness, sweet on start, then honey, herbs, caramel. Creame texture. Good aftertaste. Very good.

Tastes very light compared with its massive amount of alcohol. just like a regular Kellerbier or Landbier. As others noted, it’s got a light caramel note, maybe even a bit of vanilla. if you had never seen the original bottle, like served in a glass., it could even be mistaken for a (franconian) Märzen, both taste-wise and look-like. Goes down smooth and easy as well. One of my favorite trappist-style beers so far.

Pours a dull, cloudy, brown-golden with a quickly fading tan-eggshell colored head. Honey, vinous, brown sugar, toffee, and caramel aromas. Moderately thick with burning carbonation. Sweet up front. Toffee and caramel. Yields to a tarter quality as in a red apple. Finishes with a touch of an off flavor. Like one gets in a homebrew made from a recipe in a box.

Shared bottle. Pours is dark amber with thick beige head, persistent. Aroma of malts, spices, pepper, nuts and caramel. Taste is malty, lots of caramel, light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, smooth, creamy texture, light to medium bitter finish. Some say this is the best beer brewed by La Trappe, it’s good though not the best.

0,33l Flasche. Braunes Bier mit kleiner Schaumkrone. Riecht nach Caramel, schmeckt angenehm malzig nach Caramel, leicht fruchtig.

750ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Copper in colour with a long lasting, large tan coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of pepper, yeast, caramel, some fruit, spice. The flavour is lightly sweet, yeasty, some pepper spice, some caramel. Yeasty mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, yeasty, light bitterness. I like the drinkability in this. Pretty straightforward.

Troebel blond bier met fijn wit schuim dat blijft kleven. Men ruikt een vleugje fruitigheid.

Largement surnotee selon moi.
