COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Taster from bottle at Binny’s prominent banana-esque ester in the nose. Another amber color with a good ring of foam around the edge. Mostly tastes like a straight Belgian ale. Esters contribute to a fullness around all surfaces of the palate, almost a bit more "chewy" that an average Belgian beer.

Hazy copper hue under a sticky foamy ivory head. Lovely estery and light banana-ish aroma with some earthy fruity Belgian esters. Flavorful and full Trappist flavor of dusty fruity yeast esters, light pear and apricot tones, some Belgian blonde malt, and a crisp dusty yet fruity malty finish. Interesting and very Belgian, for lack of a better descriptor, with a bready kind of body.

Bottle 330ml - cellared for approximately 1-2 years. Served at room temperature. Pours a clear amber. Head is large, fluffy, off-white and lasts very well. Aroma is of spicy/herbaceous hops; wholegrain bread, pears, grapes (green), lemon zest, Belgian candy sugar, cinnamon, cloves and coriander. Flavour is a smooth with a light spicy/herbaceous hop bitterness; grains, hay, apple skins (green), crisp pears, lemon zest (light), Belgian candy sugar, green leaves (light), cloves (light) and a lightly peppery/dry finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a slightly oily texture and an average length finish.

300ml bottle shared with Lena (she’s very positive about this one) Pours amber with medium creamy head. Sweet aromas of caramel, bready malts. Taste is frooty and sweet with an medium bitter aftertaste. I like the balance of bitterness and sweetness, which makes this beer fresh, but i could wish for a more powerfull aroma and taste.
