COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Taster from bottle at Binny’s prominent banana-esque ester in the nose. Another amber color with a good ring of foam around the edge. Mostly tastes like a straight Belgian ale. Esters contribute to a fullness around all surfaces of the palate, almost a bit more "chewy" that an average Belgian beer.

Artificial smell, artificial aroma. Heavily overrated imo. Drinkable it is though.

Color ámbar oscuro opaco. Espuma cremosa persistente. Aroma cítrico y a caramelo. Sabor a levadura y lúpulo, ligero dulzor, final amargo y chispeante.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a glossy semi-dark amber color. Sustaining finger’s worth of glossy white head dissipated in a nice slow fashion. Slim lacing. The aroma takes on all of the normal Belgian sweet to spicy bready/yeasty goodness. Sly grassy sweetness with Belgian sweet sugar embalms it all together nicely. The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas to ride into a slight sticky Belgian sweet sugar aftertaste. Slight sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable to sipping feel to it. Overall, uh....wow, for a Belgian Strong Pale ale it more than works. Yeah, I’d have again.

Average frothy off-white head with good retention. Hazy orange light amber colour. Aroma is slightly spicy and caramel. It evolves to honey and almonds after a few minutes. Taste is not very complex, slightly spicy, esters, sugar.

Bottle @ La Trappe Klooster, Tilburg. Looks consistent amber and clear, small off head with medium carbonation. Smell gives some caramel, yeast and herbs. Taste is strong upfront with a lot of presence from the herbs and yeast, aftertaste is rather smooth and somewhat sweet. Overall, a very pleasant beer I’d happily drink again on a day not too hot.

Verrassend mooi amberbier! Mooie smaak met een aangenaam bittere afdronk.
