COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Taster from bottle at Binny’s prominent banana-esque ester in the nose. Another amber color with a good ring of foam around the edge. Mostly tastes like a straight Belgian ale. Esters contribute to a fullness around all surfaces of the palate, almost a bit more "chewy" that an average Belgian beer.

Poured from small bottle at least 2 years old into a Saxo chalice. Pours light brown with beige head and lace. Aroma of light malts and powder sugar. Flavors of amber malts, vanilla, powder sugar, slight melon rind and light grains. Overall exceptionally smooth, flavorful and easy drinking.

Somehow managed to miss this one before Jun. ’14. Had it from a 0.33 l bottle bought in Vrutak store, Zagreb. It poured, hazy brown-reddish body with compact, long lasting white head. Fine and delicious, typical Belgian ale aroma, yeasty vanilla, banana, some caramel. Flavor inclined to lightly sweet side, quite yeasty (too much), other than that fruity, mostly peach, a bit alcoholic and not nearly as complex nor pleasant as the nose. Medium bodied with creamy palate and again a bit more pleasant finish that was well rounded despite flaws in the flavor. Still quite sweet and warming/alcoholic. Not so bad, but expected more.
