Draught at t’Arendsnest. Hazy orange brown coloured with a medium sized off white head. Fruity aroma of caramel, dried fruits and liquorice with notes of yeast, oak and tobacco. Sweet flavour of caramel, dried fruits, oak and vanilla with notes of alcohol. Warming alcoholic finish.

On tap at Wildeman. Amber body with short head. Sweet. Syrupy texture. Tastes of caramel, gum, fruits. Sourness too. Quite warming in the finish. Pretty good for a La Trappe!

Tap @ ’t Arendsnest, Amsterdam.
Pours hazy red amber with a nice, small, staying, off-white film head. Aroma is oaky, caramel, dried fruits, yeast, vanilla, light chocolate. Soft carbonation, impressive oily mouthfeel. Flavour has notes of red apples, banana, raisins, oak, caramel, lightly vinious with fine vanilla notes. Not as good as the 5-year old regular one, I had the day before, but still very nice.

On tap at ’t Arendsnest. They had samplers of 3 versions, the 2009, 2004 and the oak aged (this one), a nice tasting experiment. The 2004 resembled the 2009 a lot, being somewhat softer. But this one was completely different from the regular versions. Clear orange/amber with a purple hue, dense off white head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, wood, fruits, caramel. Flavour is sweet, fruity, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, some wood, light alcohol, light bitter finish, very soft and smooth. Fullbodied. So much nicer than the regular version...

On tap at ’t Arendsnest. Perfect reddish brown colour with a stable, offwhite head. Complex aroma, hints of vanilla, sweet fruit and orange. Very much vanilla flavours, some orangey whisky notes, caramel towards the finish. Overall very sweet. Exciting experiment by a trappist brewery (which has already produced a wit and a bock, too), but it is coming out too sweet for my liking.
