Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul for this beast. Pours unclear amber with a bibbly tan head. The aroma holds lots of fruits, some bread, melon, berries. Big sweet flavor with lots of gummy fruits, berries, a bit of bread and toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation; lightly chewy. Sweet finish with a menagerie of fruits, some tropical, more melon. Very tasty stuff.

Shared with Korean visitor in Kulminator. Strong port aroma, sweet. Same taste, sweet port overwhelming, not too strong taste. Also not too long lasting aftertaste. Still good beer. (Antwerpen 201409)

Special thanks to Benny and Dieter for sharing this excellent beer at a unique location. Light brown colored beer with small brownish head and no carbonation visible. Malty whiskey hinted aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is malty fruited with some slight roasty and alcoholic hints.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2014 The first oak-aged La Trappe Quadrupel, with thin, creamy, off-white head and misty orange brown colour. Very complexely perfumed aroma of grapes, sherry, wood, thyme, candi syrup, dates, madera, gingerbread, honey, port wine, cloves, orange peel, passion fruit... Soft fruity onset with sourish touch, elegant and supple, very vinous, exotic fruits, honeyish, orange touch, complex and mellow, rich maltiness, ending in a warming, whisky-like finish with medium hop bitterness. Very warming and complex ale, I absolutely adore this and to me this is the first one where La Trappe really achieved the world class quality of the greatest of Belgian trappists. Ages wonderfully as well: Lieven from the Velootje pub in Ghent poured me a vintage sample a few weeks ago and it had developed a very delicate and refined port-like character - which prompted me to buy a few bottles of the latest batch in an attempt to cellar them for at least a couple of years. Recommended.

From the archives. Bottle@home. Head: off-white coloured, shrinking. Colour: deep ruby brown. Aroma: hops, dried fruit, some wood, roasted malt. Taste: nice bitter-sweet body. Palate: smooth, mouth warming, bitter-sweet finish. moderate CO2. Overall: very nice.
