4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep dark burnt orange colour, no head whatsoever, looks flat; vinous, oaky aroma, like a tannic red wine, also stewed prunes, leather - smells great; mellower than mellow, carbonation practically absent, the very softest of beers; gentle sweet stewed fruit flavour, dried cherries, with a slow steady build up of warming alcohol; long finish; good and very interesting for sure, but I won’t be forking out £10+ for the other batches!

My Bottom Line :
Doughy yeast, date-like malts and wine lengths are licked by alcohol warmth and caramel in this rich Barrel-Aged Quadrupel.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam stays atop the misty reddish brown.
-The mouthfeel is healthy, not too heavy. However, carbonation is much softer than expected. Makes the beer feel heavier than the average Quad.
-The flavor profile is more talkative than the aroma.
-Touches of blueberries appear in the nose, and spicy phenols in the flavor profile.
-The finish is fruity, warm and sugary.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Poured a murky dark burgundy color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of dry fruits with light vinous notes and residual candi sugar. Taste is also dominated by residual sugar with some dry raisins notes with quite a bit of vinous notes and some light dry oaked notes. Body is quite full with light carbonation and no apparent alcohol. The vinous notes were not a perfect for the base beer in my own opinion.

Special import from the SAQ. Pours a cloudy deep amber colour with a frothy beige head, good retention and creamy thin lacing. Big nutty nose with malts, caramel and hints of wood. Loads of fruits in the taste, starting with raisins, plums, heading for apples and goes into a little alcohol and coffee malt notes. An interesting strong ale with lots of character, but do not feel the Malbec too much. Not my thing, but worth trying.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Bruce’s, shared by Colin. It pours murky dark brown with a quickly dissipating head. The nose is wood, earth, spice, dark fruit, dried berry, vinous and alcohol. The taste is earth, light toast, warming alcohol, wood, dark fruit, vinous, caramel, candy sugar, spice, red grape, cherry skin and date with a warming finish. Medium-full body and lowish carbonation. Good depth of flavour and drinkability. Pretty tasty stuff.
