4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cork and caged 0.375 bottle, my sixth different batch so far in my life: I have three more remaining in my stash. Poured at home into my huge ’Judas’ badged tulip glass so the beer could breathe and show off it’s colouring, no sediment left the bottle during the pour, even though I had to use a corkscrew to get the synthetic cork out. Misty reddy brown with no head, just a thin collar , not even a wisp on the top of the moody looking beer. Port like and fruity in the nose: oak, yeast and nuts can be added to the aroma as the beer warmed a little in the glass. I think I opened it too cold because it seemed to get better on each sip as it lost it’s chill. Sweet fruitiness in the taste, the Port like smell not being within the flavour, the oak, yeast and nuts however do transfer to the mouth from the nose. This is a real ’sipper’, not a swift swigging beer, each mouthful should be savoured as every one is slightly different to the next. So complex and interesting. Plums, apples and dark berries come and go, the alcohol gives a heady bite throughout and a mild sourness arrives, then disappears too. A joy to drink, like all the batches I have had the pleasure of tasting so far: like the rest, this is too good to share, have a bottle to yourself like me!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
375, corked and baled (synthetic cork). Pours a murky dark mahogany with no head or lace. Big sweet smoky nose, showing plums and smoke, a bit bacony. Creamy medium body with virtually no carb. Attach comes on plummy, then gets very bacony and smoky and finishes sweet-bacony. Quite unlike any BA quad I have had, but delicious.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Part of tasting session with Oak Aged #1, #10, #12, # 13, #14, and #17. No head whatsoever. Powerful fruity and somewhat ´stinky´ nose, earthy. Flavor is not as complex and overwhelming as expected based on the aroma, fresh fruit, red wine. Finishes quite watery. Surprisingly easy to drink. Certainly not the best of the series.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle in a vertical of several batches, small sample, served in a taster glass. Pours a bit darker brown color, almost no head just some minor lacing. Huge aroma of red wine added to the regular la trappe. Spicy belgian yeast is most gone, as its about 2 or 3 years old. Big fruity red wine, grapes, tannines. In flavor, its much less pronounced and the caramel of the base beer comes through more. Aroma is big, but flavorwise you expect more power in taste. Slight unbalanced. Pinot noir blended better than Malbec in that case.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
(La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch #10) Bottle 375 ml at home, corked and caged, poured into a tulip glass and served at room temperature. ABV 10%
Light amber colour on the body, clear, with a small and thin tan head on top. Low retention, it leaves light lacing behind.
Aroma of wine, ripe fruits, wood, alcohol, vanilla. Although pleasant, it’s not so strong as other batches.
Nice taste though, grapes, wine, dark ripe fruits, alcohol is pleasantly present, notes of vanilla, quite sweet.
Medium thin body, low carbonation.
Quite good beer, but it misses the aroma/taste explosion that makes it really impressive on previous batches.

Een heel lekker bier, ik heb het eerst nog een jaar laten rijpen in mijn kelder en het was echt top.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
3rd July 2014
Murky brown beer, few pale tan bubbles for a head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Sweetish malts, little caramel. Touch of bubblegum ester. Dried and fruits and a little raisin and prunes. Mild orange citrus. Mild spice before the dry finish. Complex and rich, just lacks that wow factor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Pours clear, amber with a medium sized, off-white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, citrus, vanilla, wood and yeaty notes. Sweet flavor that end up more dry with alcohol notes. Medium to full bodied, oilt texture and soft carbonation. An excellent Quad.
