Part of tasting session with Oak Aged #1, #10, #12, # 13, #14, and #17. No head whatsoever. Powerful fruity and somewhat ´stinky´ nose, earthy. Flavor is not as complex and overwhelming as expected based on the aroma, fresh fruit, red wine. Finishes quite watery. Surprisingly easy to drink. Certainly not the best of the series.

Bottle in a vertical of several batches, small sample, served in a taster glass. Pours a bit darker brown color, almost no head just some minor lacing. Huge aroma of red wine added to the regular la trappe. Spicy belgian yeast is most gone, as its about 2 or 3 years old. Big fruity red wine, grapes, tannines. In flavor, its much less pronounced and the caramel of the base beer comes through more. Aroma is big, but flavorwise you expect more power in taste. Slight unbalanced. Pinot noir blended better than Malbec in that case.

375ml bottle, batch 10, dark brown-amber color, with a ring of bubbly beige head, with a fruity yeast, fruitcake, faint vanilla oak barrel nose, with some raisin pie, dark dried fruit, subtle port wine liquorish, prune juice accents, with some faint toffee, date square, brown sugar, boozy alcoholics notes in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate, with a warmth sweet caramelized, toasted, biscuity malty, dark dried fruit, prune juice, brown sugar, fruitcake, port wine liquor character, with some vanilla oak barrel, date square, raisin pie, sugar pie, toffee flavours, leading towards a warming, mild sweet port wine liquorish, fruity prune juice, fruitcake, dark dried fruit, vanilla woody oak unes finish.

Batch 10, Bottle at home, Dark cola coloured beer with a small head, aroma is wine, grapes, wood, hint of vanilla. Taste is wine, grape, bit of vanilla, dry taste. aftertaste is dry. Very nice beer.

(La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch #10) Bottle 375 ml at home, corked and caged, poured into a tulip glass and served at room temperature. ABV 10% Light amber colour on the body, clear, with a small and thin tan head on top. Low retention, it leaves light lacing behind. Aroma of wine, ripe fruits, wood, alcohol, vanilla. Although pleasant, it’s not so strong as other batches. Nice taste though, grapes, wine, dark ripe fruits, alcohol is pleasantly present, notes of vanilla, quite sweet. Medium thin body, low carbonation. Quite good beer, but it misses the aroma/taste explosion that makes it really impressive on previous batches.

Murky brown beer, few pale tan bubbles for a head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Sweetish malts, little caramel. Touch of bubblegum ester. Dried and fruits and a little raisin and prunes. Mild orange citrus. Mild spice before the dry finish. Complex and rich, just lacks that wow factor.

Bottled. Pours clear, amber with a medium sized, off-white head. Aroma of fruit, caramel, citrus, vanilla, wood and yeaty notes. Sweet flavor that end up more dry with alcohol notes. Medium to full bodied, oilt texture and soft carbonation. An excellent Quad.

375mL bottle, pours a filthy amber brine with a very small beige head. Nose brings out lots of oaky wood, dark fruits, caramel, and yeast. Flavour is very oaky, figs and dates, and caramel. Very complex, with an oaky finish. Excellent.

Brown bottle, 375 ml, lot 10, drunk in a La Trappe glass, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savoured on June 19 2014; eye: dirty brown, semi-hazy, no effervescence, tiny ring of beige head, no lacing; nose: malt, candied sugar, woody, light tannin, brown sugar, fruity, light oxidation; mouth: malt, candied sugar, light woody, light tannin, brown sugar, light alcohol, light sourish, fruity, lightly oxidized, finale in malt with light presence of tannin, medium body, below-average carbonation, mildly sweet, lightly alcoholic texture; overall: correct FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 375 ml, 10 %, lot 10, bue dans un verre La Trappe, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savourée le 19 juin 2014; œil : brun sale, semi-voilée, pas d’effervescence, minuscule anneau de mousse beige, pas de dentelle; nez : malt, sucre candi, boisé, léger tanin, cassonade, fruité, légèrement oxydée; bouche : malt, sucre candi, léger boisé, léger tanin, cassonade, léger alcool, léger aigrelet, fruité, légèrement oxydée, finale en malt avec légère présence de tannin, corps moyen, carbonatation sous la moyenne, moyennement sucrée, texture légèrement alcoolique; en résumé : correct
