’Late burgundy vaten’ 91% Nieuw eiken (high toast) 4,5% Nieuw accasia (medium toast) 4,5%

Pfff... Get a bit tired of this vertical. They are not that old yet they all turn out to be prune juice. Some have just a tiny bit more barrel aged tones than others, but overall it’s all in the same street... Plastic cork doesnt age the beers well... This one has a little vanilla in the nose. The flavour is quite the same as the precious plastic cork batches... Color and attitude in the glass is the same as are mouthfeel, carbo and body... What a shame Koningshoeven!

Note: after hoarding the oldest of these beers for over 5 years, I decided to crack down on them, before they disintegrate.

Taste: sweet, bit lemony, some honey, fruity, sour apples, tannins. Aftertaste: sugary, some banana, little spicy, dried fruits, honey, little oxidized, alcohol, little metallic, caramel.

37.5cl Bottle, thanks Cees! Murky amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of toffee, oak, almost buttery, La Trappe candy, sherry. Flavour is sweet, malty, toffee, yeasty, fruity, light spicy, candy, wood. Full bodied. 12 was so much better.

37,5 cl bottle shared Appearance: Murky brown, with hardly a head. Aroma: Spices, cherry wood, oak, vanilla, port. Taste: Sweet, Port and wood and a lot of wood tones with some dark fruits.Problem is it’s a bit too sweet, causing a dominance over the further complex palate. First sip is really amazing, but the problem is that the sweetness overpowers a lot of it’s complexity in a bad way. . medium-full body, light syrupy texture, soft carbonation.

Purchased from De Molen bottleshop, Bodegraven NL. Pours with very little head, minimal lacing. It's about 2-3 years old by this stage. The immediate aroma upon opening the bottle was Christmas spice; think strong sherry cask and spicy winter fruits. In the glass more cherry wood and oak vanilla scents come through. A lot of port and sherry wood, with honey blossom sweetness. Mouth starts with an early onslaught of dark, red wine-soaked cherry. There is a still a strong interplay of delicate honey sweetness. Fresh forest fruits and sweet wines. A kick in the aftertaste; smooth chocolate liqueurs. Very complex. The mouthfeel is one of its greatest assets. The smoothness carries the sweetness and barrel notes perfectly, whilst the aftertaste comes with a more syrupy wine texture. La Trappe quadruple is already very delicate, but this is improved immeasurably. Some barrel aged beers are a bit overrated, and La Trappe can be easy to overlook, but this is unmissable. Up there with the best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very hazy deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Light and sweetish malts. A little vanilla oak. Bubblegum esters - slightly spicy. Trace of Port wine and Dessert wine and even a little Sherry. Mild spice before a light dry finish. Tasty if a tad dry.

Bottle at Chriso easter tasting. Orange / light caramel coloured pour with a fleeting halo off off white head. Aroma is nutty, brandy, apple, caramel, woody oak tanin. Flavour is composed of caramel, apple brandy, woody, oak, booze, I like it. Palate is viscous, hot alcohol, semi sweet. Nice and complex. Lingering tangy apple.
