’Late burgundy vaten’ 91% Nieuw eiken (high toast) 4,5% Nieuw accasia (medium toast) 4,5%

Purchased from De Molen bottleshop, Bodegraven NL. Pours with very little head, minimal lacing. It's about 2-3 years old by this stage. The immediate aroma upon opening the bottle was Christmas spice; think strong sherry cask and spicy winter fruits. In the glass more cherry wood and oak vanilla scents come through. A lot of port and sherry wood, with honey blossom sweetness. Mouth starts with an early onslaught of dark, red wine-soaked cherry. There is a still a strong interplay of delicate honey sweetness. Fresh forest fruits and sweet wines. A kick in the aftertaste; smooth chocolate liqueurs. Very complex. The mouthfeel is one of its greatest assets. The smoothness carries the sweetness and barrel notes perfectly, whilst the aftertaste comes with a more syrupy wine texture. La Trappe quadruple is already very delicate, but this is improved immeasurably. Some barrel aged beers are a bit overrated, and La Trappe can be easy to overlook, but this is unmissable. Up there with the best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very hazy deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Light and sweetish malts. A little vanilla oak. Bubblegum esters - slightly spicy. Trace of Port wine and Dessert wine and even a little Sherry. Mild spice before a light dry finish. Tasty if a tad dry.

Bottle at Chriso easter tasting. Orange / light caramel coloured pour with a fleeting halo off off white head. Aroma is nutty, brandy, apple, caramel, woody oak tanin. Flavour is composed of caramel, apple brandy, woody, oak, booze, I like it. Palate is viscous, hot alcohol, semi sweet. Nice and complex. Lingering tangy apple.

A "Batch 13"-ként számon tartott verzió legnagyobb hányadában burgundi hordóban nemesedett, a hatás azonban a vártnál is jobban lenyűgözött.

One of a whole series of La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged, this one from 2013; since each version is matured on a different combination of barrels, they all have their own character. It’s a series I intend to follow more closely from now on. This one has a loose, greyishly yellow beige, milky head and deep wine-red colour with bronze hue, clear with delicate and steady sparkling. Powerful aroma immediately shouts burgundy wine, cognac and a lot of vanilla-like woody tannins, apart from hints of redcurrant, strawberry jam, Belgian chocolates, amaretto, cloves, gingerbread, candied orange, honey, caramel candy, balsamic vinegar, dry sherry, old port wine and freshly cut red apples. Red fruits in the mouth, slight and refreshing tartness becoming stronger towards the end, sweet candied dates and oranges, liqueurish, with a smooth, honeyish and caramelly malt backbone leading to a complex, very vinous finish of spicy and peppery, yet gentle hops, drying woodiness, sourish and grape-like fruitiness and a fair amount of warming, yet still elegant, port- and whisky-like alcohol. A treat for quadrupel fans, very complex, almost feels like a wine or a sherry and in that sense I’d be equally happy with a classification as a barley wine. Has great aging potential, like the others: the beer type by itself as well as the bottling are clearly intended for cellaring. A side by side tasting of different batches of this brew would prove interesting. For now: along with the few other batches I had of this, by far the most interesting La Trappe product.

Brown color, hazy; minimal white foam, nice lacing - aroma of dark fruits, honey, oak wood, spices, smells somehow smoky - very balanced taste, medium sweetness, very light bitterness - medium to full body, oily and creamy texture, soft carbonation - long finish with wood aroma.
