COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Clear dark brown with light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is woody with flower notes. some vanilla and in this case also red wine . Taste is quite complex, some oak, some sweet. Aftertaste is long lasting and turning more bitter. (Velp 201307) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an average frothy light brown head that mostly diminishes. Body is clear and sparkling, with amber color. Aroma contains dark bread, roastedmalts, caramel, mild coffee, orange, lemon, dough, barnyard, banana, grape, raisin, plum, cherry, cassis, red wine, ruby port, cask wood, toffee, vanilla and spices. Flavor starts off light acidic with a little wine taste, to go to sweet and to finish with sweetness, light acidity, faint bitterness, and light astringent tannins from wine. Body os medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. A brilliant beer! Regular quadrupel flavors and aroma's, red wine, oak, it's all on there and it's all in balance.

A "Batch 13"-ként számon tartott verzió legnagyobb hányadában burgundi hordóban nemesedett, a hatás azonban a vártnál is jobban lenyűgözött.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2014 The scent of this beer is intense and enchanting. This is a beer you want to keep smelling. Flowers, vanilla and tones of wood stroking your nose. The first sip goes from beer to wine and back again. Light bitter tones walks along. Evaluates during his stay in the glass and continues to enchant you. Sweet and warm aftertaste.

One of a whole series of La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged, this one from 2013; since each version is matured on a different combination of barrels, they all have their own character. It’s a series I intend to follow more closely from now on. This one has a loose, greyishly yellow beige, milky head and deep wine-red colour with bronze hue, clear with delicate and steady sparkling. Powerful aroma immediately shouts burgundy wine, cognac and a lot of vanilla-like woody tannins, apart from hints of redcurrant, strawberry jam, Belgian chocolates, amaretto, cloves, gingerbread, candied orange, honey, caramel candy, balsamic vinegar, dry sherry, old port wine and freshly cut red apples. Red fruits in the mouth, slight and refreshing tartness becoming stronger towards the end, sweet candied dates and oranges, liqueurish, with a smooth, honeyish and caramelly malt backbone leading to a complex, very vinous finish of spicy and peppery, yet gentle hops, drying woodiness, sourish and grape-like fruitiness and a fair amount of warming, yet still elegant, port- and whisky-like alcohol. A treat for quadrupel fans, very complex, almost feels like a wine or a sherry and in that sense I’d be equally happy with a classification as a barley wine. Has great aging potential, like the others: the beer type by itself as well as the bottling are clearly intended for cellaring. A side by side tasting of different batches of this brew would prove interesting. For now: along with the few other batches I had of this, by far the most interesting La Trappe product.

375ml bottle up at the monastery. Pours a lightly hazed, red colored body with a slight orange and amber hue. Inch thick, dense, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty woody with a nice, vinous port wine element. Bready caramel malts provide a solid balance with a medium sweetness. Some tannins and a slight bourbon note in there as well alongside some dark fruits and more vanilla as this warms. Flavor is similar. Vanilla and wood up front with a sturdy, bready caramel malt backing and plenty of vinous red wine notes. Dark fruits, a light bourbon, and a nice toast towards the end before this finishes dry and woody with lots of vanilla and caramel. Lengthy aftertaste with a slight alcohol heat following a smooth, fairly full body and a soft, moderately active carbonation. Overall, a pretty special quad. Lots of red wine barrel notes with a good amount of vanilla, but very well balanced by the malts and dark fruits. Extremely enjoyable while sitting in the monastery on a sunny day. Great beer.

375 ml. bottle shared with Kraddel & rest of the group. Dark fox / copper amber with a tanned head. Nose is wonderful, sweet banana, vanilla, slight pancake syrup, sweet spices, oak, flowers,… Taste is once again surprisingly sweet banana upfront, almost like some kind of awesome hefe, vanilla, flowers, slight pancake syrup, sweet spices, oak, light bitter oak in the back & finish is red wine, sweet caramel, dark fruits,… Carb. is slightly sparkling. Slightly creamy – a great one – esp. after some lesser variations.
