37,5cl bottle at Joes’ La Trappe Oak Aged Vertical, February 25 2012. Slightly hazy ruby red color with some small yeast residu floating in it. Small white head on top of the beer. Aroma is on the one hand pleasantly sweet but a little bit soft or faint, and on the other hand there’s some ’thinner/wasbenzine’ or something like that hiding in the background. A little odd. Taste is malts and sweet, a little alcoholic, lightly a sour hint. Smooth low to medium carbonation, but the alcohol seems more present than the original and O.A. Batch 1. Medium body.

Bottled from the monastery, tasted side by side with a regular Quadrupel and Oak Aged batch #9. Ruby colored, small head. The port notes emerge immediately pouring it into the glass, very powerful, fruity, oak, combined with all the other features that are already in a normal Quadrupel, absolutely fantastic. Very complex yet smooth fruity flavor, oak, raisins, malts. Lasting fruity finish. By far the best Oak Aged i’ve had so far, immensely complex, yet very smooth and balanced. Please, make this version again!

A little hazy, light brown, no head. The aroma of a little oak with tonsel and porto notes. The taste of sweet with wood, a little tonsel with porto notes. The aftertaste a little wood with sweet notes. In comparison with batch 1 everything a little less.

Opened as the last bottle of 2011. Hazy ruby color, small off-white head. Oak, raisins and vanilla in the nose. Medium-bodied. Lots of vanilla, plums, raisins and strong wood-oak-cellar presence. Does not feel like 10 %. Slight letdown from the normal La Trappe Qr.

Last bottle found @ Willems. Brown coloured beer with some very light carbonation and a small off white head. Very clear alcoholic and fruity hinted aroma (hints of green apples and calvados) not so much port. Full palate. Finish is full malty herby and light alcoholic yeasty with a fruity ending. Very nice brew.

Floral aroma, dates and figs?, poured a nice cloudy brown with frothy head. Taste starts with the port feeling slowly followed by the bitters of the beer. Liked it.
