37.5cl Bottle, tfs Julien! Hazy purple-ish amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of candy, wood, sweet malts, hint of port, fruits. Flavour is quite sweet, typical La Trappe (and Jopen) candy, port, yeast, fruits, amber malts, some wood, alcohol, bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Later batches are better. Nice to have tried this though.

Bottle shared by Julien, small sample. Slight hazy amber to copper color, short frothy head. Aroma is slight spicy, soft caramel, soft port notes, but not as much as other old batches I tried. Soft sweet in taste, soft on the port again. Decent stuff, but it seems other batches were better or this one is past its max.

Bottle bought at a shop in Strasbourg, shared. Deep brown pourwith thin head. Aroma is really nice, sweet caramel and raspberry like fruitiness, I really dig this, winey character. Taste is sweet, boozy but not as aggressive as some of the more recent barrel-aged La Trappe quads I’ve had, very mellow with just slightly warming alcohol. Palate is smooth, full bodied with light carbonation. Tasty.

Gout complexe, bien sucré vanillé, cassonade, caramel doux, prune, fruits noirs, fruits sec, boisé,épicé nonettesl. Super ronde en bouche, on sent pas l’alcool. Superbe!

Bottle 37.5 kindly shared by Calisky. An amber brown beer without head. Nose is amasing on blond caramel, toffee and vanilla. Aroma is again on caramel, candy sugar, vanilla, alcohol is extreamly well hidden, smooth, oak notes, well made. Finish is on cassonade, spices, vanilla, grate stuff.

ThirstyBird (1940) - Düsseldorf, GERMANY - MAR 27, 2014
An old rating from the Kulminator. Pours a slightly hazy orang/brown with suspended particles. Small light tan head falls to a ring. The smell is a big sweet malty nose, oak, booze and dark fruit. The taste follows the nose with cherries, a little heat with a fruity and slightly dry finish. Medium body with a crisp carbonation.

Tranquillity (1433) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - DEC 7, 2013
Bottle bought at the brewery. Wonderful aroma, like julmust in Sweden. Looks like mead drunk in Finland during 1st of may. Taste like port wine, wood, sahti. Lovely stuff!

Backlog from notes, tasted sometime in 2011. Pours semi-clear dark amber/chestnut with little head, light lacing around the glass. Aroma is oaky vanilla, dark raisins and caramel, juicy, alcohol wafting on top. Taste follows the nose, though a bit darker- prunes, subtle banana notes, charred oak and alcohol at the end, lingering caramel. Thin in the mouth for this ABV, but goes down easy. Could use a bit more body, but overall nice.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 37.5cl bottle. Shared with Mathieu87. Tasting of the 12 first La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged variants, together with the original beer (La Trappe Quadrupel). Appearance: Amber beer, little to no head, rather unstable. Nose: red sweet wine, little bit burned, little oxidation, red fruits. Taste: red fruits, caramel, little oxidated. Nice brew once again, but no suitable for cellar-ing any longer.

Cloudy brown beer, tidy off white head. Crispy semi dry palate. Creamy malt with a brief note of vanilla oak. Mild bubblegum spice. Lovely light red wine come Port Wine fruits. Finishes with a little aniseed alcohol, semi dry. Pretty tasty!
