UPDATED: MAY 6, 2015 Bottle shared at Leighton’s. It pours cloudy mahogany brown with minimal head. The nose is rich, sweet, juicy, vinous, plum, prune, date, toffee, vanilla, jammy, toasty and wood. The taste is smooth, slick, sweet fruits, plum, date, light alcohol, umami, cola cubes, wine and wood win a smooth finish. Medium-full body and soft carbonation. Nice depth. Great aroma and it drinks rather well also.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Paul. Pours oily amber with very little head. Big malt nose, slight oxidation, hearty toffee, ripe fruits, berries, plums. Big sweet flavor with some puréed semi-dark fruits, prune, figs, plenty of toffee. Full bodied, chewy and soft. Warming finish, lightly sticky, lots more ripe and gooey fruits, some apple, caramel. Quite a nice sipper.

(La Trappe Quad Oak Aged Batch #5) Bottle 375ml, corked and caged, poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 10% Appearance is almost the same with the other batches I had, dark amber to brown colour on the body, slightly hazy. This one doesn’t have a head at all, some bubbles that are forming during the pour disappear straight away, of course no lacing to be expected. Aroma has plenty of wine, lots of vanilla, wood, little bit of caramel, ripe red fruits, amazing. Boozy taste on the first sip, toffee and caramel, then the fruity notes are kicking in. The alcohol is always present during the drinking. Again wood and fantastic vanilla notes. Thin body with low carbonation. Very good, if it was thicker and with better carbonation, that would be a masterpiece.

Tap at the Brouwcafe, Scheveningen. Poured a dark amber with a thin white broken head. The aroma is caramel, vinous oak. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a smooth creamy toffee caramel vinous palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. A super beer. One of the best La Trappe Quads I’ve had.

Wood at the taste for sure, slightly spiced and boozed. Slightly aged bottle, this will affect it a bit probably. Dark amber couloured brew that looks like brown in the glass. A nice, mostly sweet, beer, not bad at all.

Poured a murky reddish brown with minimal white head. Aroma of sweet vinous fruit with an overtone of the wood. Medium body, flavour of caramel malt and the fruit (plum, berries) with a dryness from the barrel.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 37.5cl bottle. Shared with Mathieu87. Tasting of the 12 first La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged variants, together with the original beer (La Trappe Quadrupel). Appearance: somewhat darker than the previous 4, small unstable head. Nose: very sweet, vinous, fruity. Taste: nice sweetness, hints of lemon (little acidity), mostly white wine. Very nice beer.

375 ml bottle - pours deep marroon brown, no head. Aroma of nuts, a bit oxydised (1 year 8 months in cellar), a bit burbouny (?), monbazillac notes, earthy. Medium body, watery with no depth, one-sided. Taste of ashes and nuts, plums and dates. All in all average.
