Cellared for two years. Pours a ruby amber with floaters, with no head to speak of, and no fizz. Aroma of mince meat, banana, apricot, pepper and spices - bit of anise, vanilla, clove - wood bark, and malt. Taste is sweet over salt character, bringing out the oak and the white wine. Palate is a faint, fine carbonation, with an oily mouthfeel. Robust body. Solid beer.

Bottle at Monks. Darker and smoother than the regular quad. Heady aroma as well. When first poured looked surprisingly clear though there ended up being a fair amount of sediment in the second half of the bottle. Dark caramel raisins. Very rich but a barrel aged ruby added to the normal vanilla malt bomb. This version is more refined.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Wow. Absolutely amazing, pours a rusty brown with minimal head. Aromas of oak and wine are noticeable immediately. Lots of malt, yeast, and brown sugar too. Just so much going on. So complex. Minimal carbonation. My only complaint is the price: 20 dollars a bottle. I would venture to say it is worth it though. So great, if you can find it try it you wont be sorry.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cork and caged bottle via SL. Pours a muddy red brown color.. when I popped the cork barely any carbonation response... Poured aggresive, no head to speak of. Decent amount of sediment in the bottom. Smells nice though. Raisons, plums, other dark fruits. Malty, raw brown sugar, with some oaky notes. Taste even better. Malty, brown sugar, raison, plums. The oak taste has just the right amount. All blended well togther. Body is oily, slick smooth.... carbonation level is low but far from flat. The alcohol is not noticable but slightly warming. Enjoyed sipping on this beer. Overall: Nice BA quad

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2013 375 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a thin ivory head, with hints of lacing, over a hazy, particle laden, dark amber brown (SRM 18) body.....nose is raisin, plum, brown sugar....taste is plum, raisin, vinous tones, hints of honey, vanilla, moderate sweetness throughout, finishing with light clove, allspice tones, with a bit of spice bitterness......mouth feel light, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. This is a very rich, complex, sweet beer. The white wine barrels added a light wood, but heavy vinous sweetness to the final result. White wine barrels seem to add a dessert quality to a beer. While it meets the style quite well, the sweet qualia are quite dominant, and the particle laden body detracts from the overall experience. BJCP 8/2/15/4/7

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a nice large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light dry fruits and residual sugar with some wood notes. Taste is also dominated by some wood notes with light residual sugar notes and dry raisins. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting experiment but I believe the regular version is probably better then this barrel-aged version and the white wine notes where quite hard to distinguish.

Appears to be the color of poop. Smells like oak and chestnut. And some alcohol. Taste is okay. Kinda dry.

Poured a hazy red with sediment. Grape and wood in the aroma with candi sugar. Lots of oak with cherries and fruit. Decent flavors with a little complexity. Not bad!

12/13/12/12/12/12
