COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BATCH 7 is blended in June 2011 and is the first batch (of two) that has matured in old whiskey barrels. These barrels come from different whiskey distilleries such as Bowmore, Tamdhu, Strathspey and Laphroaig (Johnstons). The aroma’s of the whiskeys have an obvious impact on the final flavor. This flavor is remarkable and clearly different from those of previous batches. Peat and burnt are more present, while wood and wood tannins are less obvious to spot. But the warming effect of the full, robust flavor the whiskey barrels passed on to our already beautiful Quadrupel, makes this batch maybe even the most tasty brewed to date.

Bottle at Ekstedts tasting 2011-12-02. Amber beer with a beige head. Oaky aroma, whiskey, alittle vinous and sweetish. Woddy flavor, whiskty, dry, some hops coming through but mostly on the sweet side. Woody finish. A bit too much wood, but otherwise nice.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2011 (Bottle) Pours clear dark copper to mahogany brown with a creamy sand-coloured head. The aroma holds smoke up front with undertones of toasted cookies, crisp bread and tropical fruits alongside grassy and herbal European hops. Medium esters and light phenols. The flavour is medium sweet, and light bitter. Smoked malt up front as well as fruity esters, phenols, nuts, honey, dark bread, cookies, vanilla, cocoanut, bread syrup and earth. The mouthfeel creamy, round, velvety and light sticky. Light carbonated. Robust malt/sugar base, aggressive yeast and earthy hops. Medium bodied.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Slightly hazy brownish/red with a medium head. Aroma of wallpaper paste, whisky, oak, some smoke and alcohol. Quite a lot of whisky and oak in the taste. Drinkable but not balanced.

Pours cloudy amber / orange with a minimal tan head. A bit of lacing. Aroma is dominated by scotch single malt whisky. I can actually smell the Islay whiskies in it! There’s some belgian yeast, spices and caramel malt there as well, a touch of cherries and figs. But dominated by the whisky. It’s not unpleasant, just not really my cup of tea. Taste is a bit worse. The whisky really takes over here as well, and the mix between typical whisky flavor and the quadrupel style doesn’t really work. Body is nice, full and creamy. A beer that looks and feels great but which is let down by it’s smell and taste.

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2011 Yuck. This one tasted like someone tried to mix a beer with a cheap bourbon. Stay away.

Sampled from bottle at "Proeflokaal de Schaapskooi" at La Trappe Koningshoeven. Clear amber color, no head, just a small off-white lacing. Smell smokey, bacon, peated. Taste too much smoke to be really tasty, but still it’s a very soft, velvety taste. Thin texture though, soft carbo, low body for 10%ABV.

Bottled @ cgarvieuk’s Need some Cupboard Space tasting, thanks Noize. Brown colour, tan head. Nose is oaky, boozy and metallic. Flavour is boozy, bit smoky, whisky, peat, bit malty, candy sugar, bit fruity. Whisky overpowers everything.

In bottle. Pours a red orange colour with a thin beige head. Aroma is dominated by iodine with cheese, whiskey and oak. Overpowering iodine flavour with smoke, caramel and candy sugar. Not great.
