UPDATED: OCT 30, 2011 Yuck. This one tasted like someone tried to mix a beer with a cheap bourbon. Stay away.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle) Hazy brown colour with brief, thin foam. Malty, fruity, peaty nose with Scottish whisky, oak wood, raisins, prunes and hints of saffron. Malty, fruity, peaty taste with notes of oak wood, brown sugar, treacle, raisins, prunes, peaty whisky, dark bread, chocolate and a fairly sweet finish with low bitterness and lots of oak and smoke. Almost full body, quite sweet. Low carbonation makes it a bit flat. I’ve tried better oak aged versions, this one was a bit over-powered by whisky and oak. Still, quite nice.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Refrigerated 12.7 oz. brown bottle corked and capped poured into a Trappist glass. Pours dark brown with clumps of yeast and small beige head. Aroma is nice whisky, medium body, low carbonation, and some small bubble lacing. Taste is whiskey, oak, peat, and long stale finish. Batch #3 was way better compared to this. $20 bottle worth $2.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
375ml cork and caged bottle poured into an old Berliner Weisse bowl during the mass ’good beer on-line tasting evening’ on 3rd Dec 13.
Oh my, this is good: might look a bit iffy and dirty but it smells and tastes awesome.
The nose is wonderful, the whiskey notes from whatever barrels this was aged in have matured and give the aroma a magnificent malt spirit and peat, smell. Port like with a semi-burnt nature too.
The taste is divine: whiskey, port and peat flavours vie with each other to excite your taste buds with their own characteristics, which have actually blended together to produce a beer of note. Really impressed, as I have been with batches 3 and 8 before this one.
The alcohol is never fare from the surface, but the depth of flavours keep it in check. A lovely crafted beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
375mL bottle, pours a murky amber brown with no head. Nose brings out loads of peat whiskey, rich dark fruits and caramel - very complex. Flavour brings out even more peat whiskey than on the nose, which blends well with the dark fruits and caramel. Could use a livelier carbonation, as this is nearly flat. I’m going against the grain here - I like the mix of the peat and base quad - though not as much as base quad. Great stuff.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Thanks GEus. Pours clear dark red to black with a small, light fizzy off-white head. Aroma has clear peat, caramel, plums, raisins. Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has sweet whiskey, oak dryness, caramel, light peaty smoke that kinda grows. Good lingering oaky dryness. Mellow.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a goblet. K03E11 10:32, Batch 7 (I think, though I can’t be sure since the "7" is printed on the black part of the label). I performed a feat of strength when I got this cork out.
3.25 A: Murky purplish brown color. Just a touch of beige head that didn’t last too long.
3.75 S: Twould appear that this is one of the whiskey versions. Though I can identify the aroma as whiskey, it has a strange rubber/latex component to it. Despite how it sounds, it’s not unpleasant. TONS of date aroma in this, probably more so than in any other beer I’ve sniffed. Caramel, fig, toastiness, and plum. Whiskey does a good job of not overpowering the base beer and for that I’m thrilled. Aside from the rubbery aroma, the whiskey offers a solid earthiness, plenty of peat, and oak. Strange, but quite nice.
3.25 T: The taste is fine, but it falls flat (more on that in the MF). The base beer can’t compete with the whiskey despite the whiskey not being overly strong. Date, brown sugar, fig, toastiness, plum, and molasses are still there, but they all play second fiddle to the whiskey. It is for this reason that I believe most Belgian styles do not benefit from any flavored barrel treatment, though I still can’t help myself from trying them. Anyway, peaty whiskey gives earth and oak again.
3.0 M: Lighter medium body. There isn’t enough carbonation. I like my Belgians spritzy and bubbly and this doesn’t have enough carbonation to fulfill that. Otherwise, it’s not bad. Goes down super easy.
3.25 D: It’s an easy drink, but it doesn’t have enough quality in the taste or mouthfeel to justify paying $15 for it. Give it a try if you must.

1.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 2/20
Sweet woody smell. No head. Dark red brown color. Sweet Carmel and way over the top oak flavor. Woody taste right up in your face so much it over shadows all other flavors. Way to expensive

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 37.5cl bottle. Shared with Mathieu87. Tasting of the 12 first La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged variants, together with the original beer (La Trappe Quadrupel).
Appearance: small unstable head, amber beer.
Nose: lots and lots of ardbeg...
Taste: this beer is out of balance for me, it has to much ardbeg, whiskey taste, there is some sweetness noticeable, but should have been more to balance it out. But a faithful whiskey drinker will probably enjoy this beer a lot!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy maple syrup colored pour. Thin head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of peat and cherries. Taste is smokey, flavors from the different Scotch barrels are predominant with a peaty, cherry lingering finish.
