4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch #8) 375 ml bottle, corked and caged, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 10%. Served at room temperature.
Dark ruby red colour on the body, small and thin tan head, with low retention, leaving light lacing around the glass.
Aroma of vanilla, wood, intense whiskey, dark fruits.
Taste of dark fruits, clean wood, lots of whiskey again, a bit of smoke/turf, well hidden alcohol, iodium, some vanilla on the finish.
Medium body, soft carbonation. Sticky palate.
One of the best quads I had till now and also one of the best in the series. Exceptional.

Ik heb het eerst een jaar in de kelder laten rijpen voor ik het gedronken heb en het is één van de beste bieren dat ik ooit geprobeerd heb

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a tiny beige head and a toffee and oak aroma. There is a sweet toasty dark malt and candi sugar flavor a huge dry oak finish and a warm whiskey trail.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
375ml bottle aged for 2.5 years. A cloudy dirty dark copper body, minimal white foam. Aroma of old wine, whiskey barrel, yeast, fermented berries, wet basement and a light smokiness. Taste has a wow effect: caramel malt, yeast, subtle whiskey barrel, Scottish peat, whiskey, dried berries, noble red wine. Fabulous. And I’m not a quadrupel fan.
PS Thank you Boystout for this wonderful gift!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
375 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Cork left with a light pop. Pours dark copper with a slight beige head. There’s a lot of whiskey in the aroma. Not sure it’s bourbon. It is. Med + body. Flavor has lots of smoke. Maybe it was scotch! Lots of treacle. It’s all very smooth and finishing less than dry. Had to be scotch!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A dark amber to brown beer with thin off white head. Aroma and flavors of smoke and wood rule this beer. Big and full body with a lot of dark fruit flavor and a nice mix of bitter and sweet. Can’t forget to mention tobacco and earthy flavors.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured a hazy brown color with an average to large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, alcohol wood and dark sugar aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark alcohol sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout complex brew.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12.7oz bottle, on closeout from Party Source. Poured into a Chimay trappist glass. Opened up right after finishing (and immensely enjoying) a batch 11. Definitely a lot more whiskey in this batch. Very tasty, though. Nice whiskey oak barrel influence - just enough to give all of the flavor, but none of the bite. There’s slightly more bite than in batch 11, though. A light spicy bite in the finish. Good vanilla, dark fruit. Hint of chocolate. Man, these barrel aged quads are fantastic, all 3 I’ve tried so far have been wonderful. At $6, I feel like I stole this. Very complex, rich aroma, that lasts long into the aftertaste. Very light carbonation for a belgian quad, as in the last one I tasted. Maybe the barrel aging does that. Makes sense... This one has just a bit more carbonation, though, not quite as light as the carbonation in batch 11. Bigger body. Same nice texture as the last - lightly slick, and lightly drying in the finish. Nice brown red color, but minimal khaki head. Slightly more dots of lace than in batch 11, but still they’re pretty sparse. Good moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter, lightly spicy taste, light bite of heat. A bit sweeter than batch 11. Great barrel aged quad.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at the Kulminator, Antwerp. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin broken off-white head. The aroma is rich burnt caramel, smoke and boozy alcohol. The flavour is medium bitter moderate sweet with a rich light syrup smoke spicy palate. Medium to heavy bodied with flat carbonation. One of the very best in the series.
