COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BATCH 8 is blended in October 2011.
- Whisky pre used 71%
- New French Oak Medium Toast 28%
In flavour surely the most extreme La Trappe blend to date. Besides the full whisky flavour there is a lot of new oak in this blend, which makes this blend a unique marriage of wood-tannins and whisky associations.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: No head, some quickly disappearing bubbles. Seems like there’s no carbo... Dark ruby brown ish body... Aromas of white wine, prunes, light peat, light caramel.. Flavours of prunes, peat, light caramel, light smoke, not the best malts and wood, some dried leaves, light bitter, strange... Aftertaste is light bitter with prunes and dirty malts with some porridge. Meh... No carbo, lightly thicker than watery mouthfeel, medium bodied. Fuck them plastic corks. They ruin beer!

22/XII/15 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers, Hopduvel or the monastery shop @ Tim’s Amazing La Trappe Oak Aged Series Batch 2 Through 13 Tasting - BB: n/a, blended: X/2011 (2015-1760)

Note: after hoarding the oldest of these beers for over 5 years, I decided to crack down on them, before they disintegrate.
Clear red brown beer, no head. Aroma: soft peat, sweet, caramel, sugary touch. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: peated start, bit sourish, some chocolate, caramel, leathery. Aftertaste: bit oxidized, sweet touch, some honey, alcohol.

It was fun finding this one at a dive bar in New Orleans. However, the taste had really taken on the smokiness of the oak barrel and the first few sips were difficult. The flavor unlocked to a brandy-like sweetness as time wore on. Cool beer but not one I need again.

Bottle at Bitter Creek Alehouse. Plastic cork, difficult to remove, but worth the wait. Silky smooth pour, murky brown body, no head. Aroma of wood, whiskey and pit fruit. Taste follows with a little bit of smoke on top of the oak and fruit. Well blended and well aged. Worth seeking out.

Bottle at James’ house for the End of History tasting. Pours a hazed amber with no real head. Big peat filled smoke and wood. Medium bodied, quite sweet with a lot of caramel and then a good amount of peat smoke. Quite sweet into the finish, more lingering rubber smoke.

December 31, 2014 - bottle from Ale Jail a long time ago. Pour was brown with just some bubbly head and floating sediment in my La Trappe goblet. Aroma was whiskey, wood, light smoke and dark fruit. Taste was heavy on the smoke, very sweet and the wood and whiskey came out in the finish. The dark fruits showed up in the taste as this warmed Medium body, but at times seemed lighter, and very smooth.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Bropey - who has become very much the Quad Pimp of late, 24/10/14. Murky chestnut brown with moderate beige spotting and edgework. Nose is light smoke, toffee fudge, burnt sugars, dark fruit rinds, light TCP. Taste comprises rich malt, toffee, spice, light peaty smokey wash, brown sugars, woody rinse. Medium + body, fine carbonation, sweet licks in the close. Decent quad, the smoke element allied to a touch of bitterness tempers the sweetness and keeps this drinkable.

12.7 oz. bottle picked up at Party Source from notes. Pours a hazy deep copper color with a medium sized creamy off white head. The nose has big ripe fruits, raisins, fig, caramel, brown sugar, oak, whiskey notes are noticeable, and a touch of the alcohol. The flavor is more fruits, raisins, fig, caramel, oak and whiskey alcohol. There is some burn to the mouth feel that grabs my attention, but I like this entire series.
