In flavour surely the most extreme La Trappe blend to date. Besides the full whisky flavour there is a lot of new oak in this blend, which makes this blend a unique marriage of wood-tannins and whisky associations.

A dark amber to brown beer with thin off white head. Aroma and flavors of smoke and wood rule this beer. Big and full body with a lot of dark fruit flavor and a nice mix of bitter and sweet. Can’t forget to mention tobacco and earthy flavors.

Bottle. Poured a hazy brown color with an average to large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, alcohol wood and dark sugar aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark alcohol sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout complex brew.

12.7oz bottle, on closeout from Party Source. Poured into a Chimay trappist glass. Opened up right after finishing (and immensely enjoying) a batch 11. Definitely a lot more whiskey in this batch. Very tasty, though. Nice whiskey oak barrel influence - just enough to give all of the flavor, but none of the bite. There’s slightly more bite than in batch 11, though. A light spicy bite in the finish. Good vanilla, dark fruit. Hint of chocolate. Man, these barrel aged quads are fantastic, all 3 I’ve tried so far have been wonderful. At $6, I feel like I stole this. Very complex, rich aroma, that lasts long into the aftertaste. Very light carbonation for a belgian quad, as in the last one I tasted. Maybe the barrel aging does that. Makes sense... This one has just a bit more carbonation, though, not quite as light as the carbonation in batch 11. Bigger body. Same nice texture as the last - lightly slick, and lightly drying in the finish. Nice brown red color, but minimal khaki head. Slightly more dots of lace than in batch 11, but still they’re pretty sparse. Good moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter, lightly spicy taste, light bite of heat. A bit sweeter than batch 11. Great barrel aged quad.

Bottle at the Kulminator, Antwerp. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin broken off-white head. The aroma is rich burnt caramel, smoke and boozy alcohol. The flavour is medium bitter moderate sweet with a rich light syrup smoke spicy palate. Medium to heavy bodied with flat carbonation. One of the very best in the series.

Bottle shared with Jmgreenuk at Kulminator. Pours clear brown with a ring beige head. Aroma is smokey, peat, wood, overripe dark fruit and caramel. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter, boozyness Cingular int the palate with alcohol warmth in the finish. Full bodied with flat to soft carbonation.

Like a scotch whiskey, with charred oak prominent. Dark, lots of yeast sediment. Very woody.

Pours a nice copper color with good clarity and a finger of eggshell foam. The nose has a big front end whisky note with a caramel, peat and a touch of spice. The palate follows the nose with alot of oak and whisky character present. Id almost prefer it to be a touch softer on the barrel notes but the overall beer has nice complexity and a long layered finish. Nice cola, soft brown sugar, smoked caramel.

BOTTLE 37,5 CL. Head: beige, small, frothy, poor retention. Colour: copper-chestnut, hazy. Aroma: strong whisky, peat, rich malt character, dried fruit/prunes, smoked. Taste: strong whisky flavour, sweet, some alcohol, dried fruit, burnt sugar. Woody aftertaste. Quite a nice and rich quadrupel, but the whisky is a tad too strong.

Hazy brown beer with a tidy cream coloured head. Mildly TCP whisky nose. Palate is smooth and dry. Dry malt and sweetish TCP whisky. Touch of dried fruits. Dry finish. More TCP than I want but it’s quite drinkable.

Bottle. Drank 2 years old. Pours a hazy ruby brown with an initial bit red tinged head. The aroma is all Islay or Island scotch...smokey peaty. Candied red fruit and sugars are just underneath. The age is showing...there’s something alive been working from the wood. The taste is more of that type of Scotch mostly with some late vanilla and tannics riding with the earthy, spice, and pepper and mild bitter end. Feel is silk, showing age, dense, after a little lively start compared to a newer base Quad. End is silty with a pleasant residual sugar stickiness. Something seems on the edge of being off in this but it is holding together just barely for something quite unique and enjoyable for a change of pace.
