COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BATCH 8 is blended in October 2011.
- Whisky pre used 71%
- New French Oak Medium Toast 28%
In flavour surely the most extreme La Trappe blend to date. Besides the full whisky flavour there is a lot of new oak in this blend, which makes this blend a unique marriage of wood-tannins and whisky associations.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2013 37.5cl bottle. Shared with Mathieu87. Tasting of the 12 first La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged variants, together with the original beer (La Trappe Quadrupel). Appearance: small unstable head, brown amber beer. Nose: ardbeg, whiskey. Taste: ardbeg is very overwhelming again, but somewhat better balanced than batch#7 in my opinion. Not really my kind of beer. But a faithful whiskey drinker will probably enjoy this beer a lot!

This is the third oak aged quad I’ve had from La Trappe to date and every single one has been both impressive and drastically different from the others. Big smoky oak/scotch aromas hit me as soon as I popped the bottle. When they say "whiskey" they mean scotch whiskey. Big differences there between scotch, bourbon, irish, and canadian whiskey. Ok with me though, I love them all. Taste is awesome, rich, robust and smokey with lots of scotch coming through. My only critique would be that the scotch flavors almost overpower the wonderful flavors of the quad as compared to mingling the flavors into the beer with batches #3 and #6 that I have had as well. However, this beer still was delicious and I would easily drink it again. Great beer and definitely worth the price!

16.9 oz cc bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid ruddy brown with minimal head. Nose is woody spirits, vanilla, tart fruit with notes of fig, cherry, and vanilla. Tastes very woody, somewhat sweet, with a heavy caramel malt flavor, Irish Misty/bourbony whiskey, huge woody oak and vanilla, and a fruity finish. This one is delicious.

375 ml bottle - 1 year cellared - pours deep ruby red with a faint off-wjite head. Very aromatic: slight peat and lots of green fresh gerbs; quite particular - definite like. Body is medium to full with an incredible mellow well balanced mouthfeel. The typical alcohol warmth that comes with this quad is not present, instead there is gentle smokiness and peachy sweetness. The nicest batch so far!

Caged and corked bottle. Poured an amber color with an off white head. Aromas of wood, dark fruits, some dirt/earthiness, and candi sugar. Tastes of wood, caramel, vanilla, candi sugar, dark fruits, and whiskey. Alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle. Pours a deep hazy amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, smoke, peat and oak. Flavor was slightly sweet with caramel, dried fruit, smoke, peat, oak , whiskey and had a dry oaky finish. Excellent quad

brokensail (10645) - Orange County, California, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Pours a dark amber color with an off-white head. The nose is sweet and caramelly up front with some dark fruits. Very, very intense smoke, peat, and oak on the nose. Smells intensely of scotch. A bit of vanilla and maybe some nuttiness. The flavor is overwhelmed by the smoke and peat character. A bit of char and oak, and light vanilla sweetness. Some caramel and dark fruits, but they’re really just overpowered.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2013 375 ml. bottle @ home // purchased @ home // first one I am opening myself and this plastic cork is not letting go easily // probably darkest so far of the Oak Aged ones, almost brownish apricot, the typical red is showing only in the light, most head as well , lightly yellow // nose is like an Islay whiskey, fine iodine, metallic almost hint of seaweed, light peat line with the sweetness of the base burred underneath, caramel, toffee, berries, beyond unique // taste is medium Laphroig touch, peat, iodine, lighter smoke, real Islay whiskey not just the burned kerosene peat barrel like a lot of these kinds, followed by the typical sweetness of this ones, berries, caramel, malts, sweet sugar, almost cream, finish Laphroig malt and tad sweet end, warms the throat, the more I drink these Oak Aged ones the more I love them & this one truly marries the two drink unlike so many others, as usual this is unique // Laphroig I have mentioned, Bowmore I do not like and probably plays more in the head, Tamdhu, Strathspey I haven’t tired // creamy, caramel, fudge body // damn I love this series & oh yeah 2011 Vintage

Bottle 375ml.

Clear medium to dark orange amber colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy smoke - wood, fresh wood, peat. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dusty, caramel, peat - soot, dried fruit, so balance. Very nice ;O) Body is medium, texture is creamy - oily and smooth, carbonation is soft - fizzy, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20120313]
